Weed or Leave?

Placing a new plant, when I lifted some very dry soil, I found these in abundance. Typically to the concentration shown. The longest are 6" long or less and about the thickness of thin spaghetti.
I have Yucca, Cranes Bill and recently removed Sunflowers in the area but other than that, only bulbs.
They almost look like witch grass but I am inclined to think not as they tend to be loners and longer.
What might I be in for?
