7' Tall Weed

I have suddenly been inundated by some 7' tall weed with thistle/dandelion-like seeds. The plants have shallow roots and are easy to pull up, The stalks are brittle and easily chopped down.

But the seeds went EVERYWHERE (before and after I chopped them). I've never seen this weed before and suddenly there was several hundred of them this Fall. What on Earth is it?

A tall single stalk with a cluster of yellow flowers at the top? Probably one of the Mulliens. Often a picture is worth a thousand words.

Mulleins don't have dandelion/thistle like seeds and although they scatter they don't fly about.

A picture would help massively. There are lots of tall Asteraceae which would fit the description.

Well, we don't know what color the flowers were. Just that the seeds are dandelion-like. Might be one of the wild lettuces, Lactuca spp.
