Brandywine Issue

I have a brandywine growing and blooming nicely but you can see the stem to the bloom, from the small joint just above the flower, start to immediately turn yellowish and eventually the bloom drops. I have 5 other varieties doing well and setting fruit under the exact same conditions as the brandywine. The brandywine has yet to set any fruit despite blooming up a storm for the past month. Any thoughts on the situation???

There are many discussions here on the problems associated with BW that you may wish to review. A search using its name will pull them up for you. You'll also want to check out the FAQ and discussions here on 'Blossom Drop' as that is what is happening and it happens on different varieties at different times so you can't really compare different varieties.

Brandywine has never been noted as a big producer and it is a late season plant as well. You don't indicate your zone or location so I can't tell where you might be in your growing season. But patience and avoiding the things that cause blossom drop will help.

I have 3 different Brandywines and truly didnt expect much from them based on previous Posts concerning BWs. I have been pleasantly surprised at the large number of greenies on all the plants, especially here in the PNW.

I'm not currently having any issues with Brandywine setting fruit, which is surprising to me based off of the reviews I read on it. I planted 3 plants, and so far, one of them has about 15 tomatoes on it, ranging from the size of a golfball to a few almost bigger than the palm of my hand (It has a bunch of other set blooms on it, but I don't count them till the flowers fall off and the fruit starts to develop).

I was expecting maybe a little over a dozen per plant, based off of what I read, but at the rate of fruit set and development, I expect I might see around 20-30 off the plant before fall. That's not what I'd call a poor producing plant, it's not as great as some, but considering the size and reported taste of the fruit I think it's worth it.

Honestly, I expected it's production would be really poor this year due to the cooler temps and all of the rain, but it seems like it didn't mind the rain and temps at all, I might even say it liked them.

Here's a pic of one of my larger fruits:

Like homegardenpa, just south of him in Delaware 7, I never had Brandywine issues either. I get 20 to 25 ripe per plant. Grown for about 17 years now. Not as great as many other varieties production wise but for this wonderful taste it's a great bargain! Maybe they just need to be grown here near the Brandywine River valley, who knows?
