first year growing so i'm wondering if these are sucker leaves and if so should i clip them off?

No, doesn't look like one from the picture.

A sucker looks like a main stem and starts in the crotch were your "picture" meets the stem.

Those are leaves rather than what are called suckers. I think you should leave them. They are of great benefit to the plant and certainly doing no harm.
