Oh, sure, of course! We did this all the time in the 60's when overhead lighting wasn't common. You need to figure out which outlet the light switch controls, then plug a swag type light into that outlet. Then it's just a matter of two large hooks screwed into the ceiling, one near the outlet, one in the center. Now you can drape your swag light onto the hooks, and presto! Done!

Also, for the dining room, you can go romantic and buy a chandelier that uses real candles and just hangs from a hook on the ceiling. They are SO beautiful, but more for special occasions than daily use.

Feeny reminded me of our Candle chandeliers handmade from blown glass! We could customize a fixture to make it plug in.. we would need to know how long of a wire you need though. This goes could be done to all of our fixtures actually.
