Your County's Cooperative Extension Office is a good place to start for very specific information. I don't know where "this area" is, but if you let us know where you are, many people on this forum are quite helpful and knowledgeable.

I've added a website for you to look up your Extension Office. You can ask if they have an active Master Gardeners group (who are often the primary dispensers of info to the public) and if not, ask for the county's horticulture extension agent.

Here is a link that might be useful: Texas Cooperative Extension Offices

Thanks for the response! Williamson County, Georgetown to be exact.

There are many Gardenwebbers over in your area who can help you with those tricky soils over there.

I'm afraid I might as well be a world away over here in Houston! If you post specific questions as to what problems/goals/issues you're trying to tackle, I bet you'll get a lot of helpful info right here.

Happy Holidays!

Get a copy of Scott Ogden's 'Gardening in Difficult Soils'. Great reading for the winter and an honest approach (novelty!) to plants in this hell we call Texas

Yeah, between the soils and hot dry summers, we're got our work cut out for us in these parts!

That said, I've had varying levels of success with plants not very well suited to our soils by amending the soils at planting time, but I know there's more to it than that.

It seems to me it would be a blast to garden in the Houston area. Not only are you guys a zone warmer, but you don't have to contend with the rocky, alkaline soils.
