flag moth?

I have so much trouble focusing and getting clear photos - it's frustrating, but here is my patriotic picture of the year. If anybody has advice about getting better photos from my digital camera I would love to learn how to get better at it, especially closeups. It's a Canon Powershot SD 20.

That might be a tough ID angle even with a clear shot. The only impression I'm getting from the photo is hooked antennae tips, making a skipper butterfly a possibility. Some skippers have pretty stout bodies.

How far away was the moth(?) from the camera, and does that camera have a "macro" mode, or merely a menu item for close-ups. My simple camera will only focus from 4-12" in closeup mode.

Maybe someone will recognize the major markings on the left wings.
