It is most likely a box elder, like you said, but there is a chance they could be milkweed bugs, it said that an infestation of milkweed bugs is very unlikely, unless you have a field of milkweed next door - and guess what? We do!

Ha! I thought that was funny, but they are stilll probably just box elders, it is the most common, I will go home and check and let you know!

Thanks so much for the help, wow just from a word description! I will use the information to educate my husband on how harmless they are and what will really impress him is the fact that the pesticides would do very little in the way of getting rid of the 'problem' - all that poison for nothing!!

I don't know much about massing milkweed bugs, but they do look very similar to box elder bugs. Looking at books or Web images should pin it down.
