I'm sure glad August is over! I struggle to get the heirlooms to survive the month and the few tomatoes I get are small with thick skins. As usual, the Brandywines are about dead. I never remember to start new ones in June. Actually, only the Cherokee Purples seem to get through August in "fair" condition.
With cooler weather, I'll be seeing new blooms again and future tomatoes, but I always hate the gap.
I haven't had a decent fresh tomato for a week and I actually had to buy a bottle of V8 and a can of whole tomatoes yesterday!
At least I get a free extended season. The tomatoes are up against the south cinderblock house foundation. I got a tomato in early December a few years ago. :) But right now, I sure miss them...
