I have the same problem. I have to get a new door or doors. My fake door backs up to a bedroom closet. I would like to get some light threw the door. Any suggestions?

In addition to my suggestion above you could consider a stained glass panel with led back lighting with in the wall depth.

I am wondering if anyone has found a solution? I have the same problem. We need to know how to replace the fake door if we just upgrade to a nicer wood door.

Struggling with the same issue! Like @hunt_brian above, our faux side backs up for a bedroom closet (and a little bit of our foyer). Considering a new single front door with "sidelights", but they will HAVE to be wooden panels and not true glass sidelights. Make sense?

Hi there! I think you can use front door with opaque, matte or stained glass insert. It will help you to get some light through door, additional it will be hard to see what is behind of the "fake door"

We have the same problem The false door is simply bolted to the brick front of our ranch style house.

Has anyone removed their fake door? I am not even sure what is under our door, if its brick or just a door bolted to the exterior frame of the house? I hate to remove and then get into a mess of trying to fix and it not be easy.

Good point @Sammy! As you can see from the inside view its a front door, but appears to be a double door on the front porch. I want to get a new modern looking door.

Beth, we had a similar set up. We wanted to add a new door with a window but behind the non functioning door was a bathroom. Originally the door worked but someone added the bathroom before we moved in. We found a company that agreed to put a non-functioning door panel, that matched the new door but without a window, over the old nonfunctioning door. We were pleased with the result. I can't find a pic of the inside and we no longer live there but it looked a lot like your inside.

Thanks @tfranko ! Was it just a regular door they put into the spot of the nonworking door or is that a special order type of situation? I wish you had some pic of the work in progress so I could really see what we would be getting ourselves into. But I like the alternative you did.

Beth, sorry I don’t have any pics of the process. As I recall we ordered a door or side panel that matched the style and size of the new door. The installer did not remove the old nonfunctioning door but removed the handle and installed the new door/panel over top. He framed it separately from the front door. The working front door is recessed to the panel, which is what we wanted to make it like it is not supposed to be a door. Hope that helps!

Beth just to clarify the side panel may have been ordered as a door but it was not installed with hinges. It was installed as a side panel. I’m just not sure if they were able to order a big enough side panel or had to use a door without hinges and hardware.

That makes so much more sense @tfranko, thanks for clarifying. I didn't really think about it being made to not look like a door.

Thanks Beth! The house we did this on was in Oakville Ontario but I can’t remember what local place we used and unfortunately we don’t live in Oakville any more. Sorry about that! I think if you went in a talked with a reputable door dealer/installer, they could figure it out. The original was 2 doors of the same size so I imagine the new door and panel are the same size just one recessed and installed as a door and the other raised and installed as a panel. Hopefully from the pics, they could figure out what could work for yours. Good luck!

Beth, just realized you asked about this about a year ago. Sorry I just got a notification today. Did you get your front entrance done? If so, hope you were happy with the finished product.
I looked thru old receipts and we used Speers Home Improvement. I don’t think they are open still. They came out to see the old double doors, hear what I wanted and to figure out how it would be done. If you haven’t done it yet get a good installer/ company who plan it out ahead of ordering anything.
