Look at the work of Jonathan Adler, and you'll see that very exciting rooms can start with white walls. However, if that's too stark or contemporary for your mom (which I'm assuming is the case), I'd think about a warm neutral as a backdrop. However, we need to see: current walls, floor color, furniture etc. Please provide photos. As for metallic paint, both Lowes and Home Depot carry it - but if she already has a lot of bronze, I'm afraid it would be brown overload to go with that on the walls. Plus, not every room can carry off metallic. It's best suited for dramatic spaces like a powder bath or dining room.

@michigammemom I would but I don't have service, and she does have animal print and leafy stuff, and tribal-looking jars.

Without seeing a picture, I love a deep raspberry pink with bronze.

Adarablaze, If your Mom has some animal print and tribal elements in her living room, I would keep the wall color neutral....think sand, stone and grasses of a dusty African safari.

If she has "a lot of bronze" I would choose a totally different color. Maybe another shade of a crisp white and put the bronze pieces to use as accents around the room and then add subtle pops of pattern in pillows throws, etc. Keep the artwork to a very modern finish with frameless images. No big gothic frames.

I tried that idea first. It didn't work. She wants to go a brownish shade. I think it'll make the room look too small.
