Replacement for wolf cooktop

I currently own a wolf 30 in electric cooktop. I've had it for 8 years. It recently started to randomly go into lock mode while cooking. I have to go out and reset breaker switch when this happens as its impossible to get it off lock mode. It just repeatedly locks itself. I had a service tech look at it and they said I needed to replace the controller and some other parts costing $900.
First question: can anyone confirm this issue and resolution?

Second: I'm looking at replacements. I need electric 30 in and something that will sit in the same size area in my granite. Given the premature failure of wolf and rediculous repair price I'd like to explore other brands. Consumer reports was no help since the didn't even review wolf or comparable brands. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get reliable info on cooktops?
