Try Lowes. They have a good selection and good prices. Have them fill out a new address card at the Lowes moving site, and they will get a coupon for an additional 10% off on up to $5,000. If they take out a project card, they won't have to pay for anything for several months. Also, find out which manufacturers are currently offering the best rebates. Often if you buy 3 or more appliances of the same brand, you might get a rebate worth serveral hundred dollars.

Because almost all major appliances, regardless of brand name, are now manufactured by just a few companies; and they are often filled with touchy and expensive electronic controls; and because a lot of the parts are made in China; and because no matter which brand you buy, or from whom you purchased; the chances are your service company will be A&E: I suggest they purchase an extended warrantee which includes a "Lemon" clause. Lowes had such a warrantee, and it seemed pretty good.
