Hidden storage for toothbrushes

I posted this before but had no sucess. Does anyone know what the recessed storage things that hide toothbrushes etc... from the 60's/70's are called and where can I get one? My mil has one in her bath, next to the sink. It's about 8" high and 6" wide and has a chrome door that spins into the wall to hide 'stuff' when not in use.

ANY assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Katrine822: I'm not familiar with what you describe. I don't suppose you could post a photograph?

Unfortunately my mil lives in NY and we won't be getting back there for a few weeks. I'll try to describe it better. It's a chrome colored surround and a flat chrome panel door. You would think that there would be a handle on the little door, but it doesn't swing out, rather it rotates inside the wall so that the door is completely hidden and the toothbrushes are accessible. It doesn't slide into the wall, it 'spins' for lack of better term.

When you're done using whatever you store in the space, you push on the side on the interior and the door rotates around and encloses the opening.

Those are so cool, but I don't know what they are called. Bet you could find one at an architectural salvage though. I've linked a thread over on the old houses forum - about 7 posts down there is a picture of the revolving toothbrush holder you are talking about. Funny post about a "spit" sink too! Hope you find one. If you do, let us know where... I'm still under construction and it might be fun to have one of those too...

Kattrine, I know exactly what you are talking about as my mother had that and a matching soap spinner in both bathrooms in the house she built around 50 years ago. They were very cool. I have been doing a google search for you under as many categories as I could think of and have yet to find them. But I'm still looking because now that you reminded me of them, I think it would be awesome to use in my bathroom remodel.
I'm trying and will let you know if i get lucky

That toothbrush holder is so cool! If anyone knows of or finds a source for buying new holders, please post here to let us all know. I want one!

Agghh, we just threw ours out with the remodel. Sorry don't know the name either, but every one who saw it loved it. We never ever used it though.

Some people didn't like those things because they harbor mold.
a dark , moist place is just what mold & mildew want.

these mid-century recessed toothbrushes holders were made by hall-mack and are rather rare and hard to come by now. DEA bath has one for $250. you can view a photo and details by following this link:

i have one for sale that is 24k gold plated brass. the one at DEA bath has a plastic insert for the toothbrush/tumbler holder but mine has a plated brass holder.

Anyone still looking? I have one I saved from a bath remodel and another that will be coming out of the wall in a few months. I really like them, but we use electric toothbrushes, and don't have the space to keep "just for fun".

I would love to have it! we had them in my childhood home.
