Good call, Dy, but I would go the other way. I would pick up the redish-brown in the rug for the accent wall. Maybe red ocher (yes, my favorite!): [houzz=]

I've seen too many rooms with beige and brown tones, just thought a deep blue would be something fresher :)

I would paint the back of the built in's a deep teal to pull out the teal in the rug and then use one of the coordinating colors, like grey, for the wood. And then maybe a lighter grey for the walls. Add some teal and grey pillows to your sofa to tie it all together

I think going with a reddish brown (clay color) would look too "southwest" and by the looks of torilyn50's furniture I think the blue tones would be more of a modern feel

Not that I am a designer by any means, but my two cents… I suggest a warm golden(ish) mellow yellow for the walls; pulled from the gold in your existing carpet. This perhaps will give the area a warm, yet brightening lift to the room. Use the teal to accent for sure! You can even leave that hue of dark or taupe brown (Seen in the photo) as the accent colour in the shelving area. (Since you already have the paint!)

Redheadedwmm. I really like those colors. Would you use flat paint? And also would you do all walls a light gray or perhaps one of the walls in the teal? And what if I left the shelving unit white but paint the inside of the shelves the teal color. I really appreciate your time and thoughts. I appreciate everyone's ideas.

I would find a really light blue that goes with your rug and use that not only on walls, but on woodwork and the TV surround, the latter being a satin or semi-gloss. I don't usually like light blue walls, but your other colors will warm up the room, and your rug will really pop!

Eggshell paint. That teal is def your accent color. You just have to decide how much of it you want to see. If you post pics of the room and walls, you might get a lot more input on exactly what to paint where.

Yes, I like the teal too as an accent, but not with your sofa-better if it were cream/off-white.

I like the teal, but I'm more bold with my accent wall choices in my own home. I think that your sofa (being a beige/tan color) is sort-of like neutral, so I think you could make it work. If you wanted to use teal from the rug with maybe more brown/tan colors that would make the room look warm and cozy :) And it looks like you might have had some brown paint on hand already. I think your rug is great and my personal taste (more modern) would be to stay away from the red-ish browns. If you want the lines of the built in to show then paint the wood a lighter color (white, cream, etc) but if you want them to blend in more, then you could go with something in the same tone as the teal. For paint finish, I prefer eggshell. Good luck!

Yes, I think the teal is too much---but agree that you should stay away from the reddish browns as well. Check the colors I suggest above... One is a warm plum/mocha, the other a muted gold, and the last a pinky plum color. All are warm undertones as I think the rug has enough cool (teal) hue that the room needs more balance using warm hues, not a cold one... Good Luck!

I have thought about all the colors and then the hurricane came and still no power . I am so undecided. Honestly I never was any kind of a decorator . I just want to make it nice for everyone..
