Replacing a Sub Zero built in

Our 23 year old Sub Zero needs to be replaced. It has a bottom drawer freezer and is 36 inches wide, 84 inches high and 24 inches deep. It is built in and we need an exact size to replace with - else we need to break down some cabinets. We want to get a stainless steel front refrigerator but the Sub Zero is sooo expensive. Anyone know if there are refrigerators out there sized identical to Sub Zeros?

Probably not exactly. There are not many options so you could look on AJ Madison or a site like that and check out the various true built ins: Sub-Zero, Miele, Gaggenau, Northland, Thermador, GE Monogram. Liebherr, Electrolux, Seimens. Most of them make 36" I believe, but the heights will be where you vary. Some of them will be in the price range of the SZ

We have a Kitchen Aid 36 inch that's four years old. At the time we bought it, it cost about $1,000 less than the Sub-Zero. There was a lower-end brand available at the time, a Frigidaire perhaps, that was 36 inches and built in, for less money. We're happy with our Kitchen Aid. We found a floor model GE Monogram at a Sears store going out of business that would have saved us $2,000, but our electrical work was done already, and the electrical box (or whatever you call it) had to be in a different place.

Check the specs for each fridge you are considering buying, and find out where your electrical box is for the Sub-Zero. They are all different, alas.

Shop around for a floor model from a dealer going out of business or changing their display.

    Good luck!

Just about all built in fridges are the same size- 36 x 84.

SZ has change their models and they install a bit differently so be sure if you go back with them.

GE Monogram, Viking, Dacor, KitchenAid, Thermador, Thermador/Bosch/Gaggenau newer series, will all be 84" tall.

Same thing for us four years ago. At that time there was nothing else that would fit in the spot so we went with another SubZero. BUt there are so many different makes and models now. Go to a large appliance store and they should know which ones will work for you.

Thanks to all who responded. I found a dealer selling the Sub Zero refrigerators from last year (older model) at a closeout price of $5500 (compared to $8100 for a 2009 model!)

So we are going with the Sub Zero.
