I am dealing with the same issue right now. The bathroom in the house we just bought is TINY, floor space measures 4.5x6 (not including shower stall) The previous owners took of the 28" door that swong in and the toilet is right at the doorway.

I've bought the pocket door hardware and door, but now I'm thinking about doing an outside pocket door. Had seen pictures of it previously but didn't like that you'd see the railing in the bedroom. Looked the other day and on the homeowners gallery someone posted a pic where they put the railing in the bathroom.

From what I see, pros of the outside one - no need to tear down wall, repaint, possibly have to move wiring, $$$ and probably other things as well. The cons, will take up a little more of the floor space than having door in pocket, have to see the rail in the bathroom and losing whatever you have on the wall where it will glide.

For me, the wall where it glides, there's only a towel bar - thought if I wanted, I could just put the towel bar on the backside of the wall, or maybe even some artwork!

Below is the link of what I saw that I'm considering on doing.
