Two Valentine Tables

I did two tables this week and changed out some things several times. i just don't have the knack to make them look like the ones I see here, but this is a big step up for my usual of eating in front of the t.v. or on a plain table!

Our 36th anniversary was the 10 and I used the black plates for that day. The large red roses vase was one that I received from my sister and BIL when I lost my son a few years ago. It is a beautiful arrangement and I love it, but it is so big.

This is the same table, but I changed out the centerpiece and used something smaller and shorter candleholders. Actually, the first picture was the one used for our anniversary, but i used red napkins. I used red chargers and black octagon shaped plates and salad plates.

The final one is the one I used last night for Valentines dinner. I set the table for four, but there were just the two of us. I changed out to white plates with heart shaped plates on top of them. I left the black octagon salad plates for the salad. Even though the heart shaped ones were plastic, I think they looked okay. I actually had four smaller heart shaped ones that we used for dessert, but these larger plates seemed to look better on top of the white plates. I only have a couple of black champagne flutes and two of the goblets, so I used the two plastic red flutes with the hearts on them to complete the table. We actually used the tuxedo glass ones to drink from.

Our meal last night consisted of rotiserrie chicken, steamed veggies, white and wild rice (too much white as it turned out), salad, and a sock-it-to me cake for dessert. I had planned to make my grandmothers Red Velvet Cake with buttermilk and French icing, but I ran out of time.

Printer, the tables are lovely and I've saved the photos for our Valentine album. That rose arrangement and gorgeous vase in the first photo really caught my eye.
I am glad you use that vase for happy times, to me that is a special tribute to your son. You've touched my heart today with your post.

(By the way, your dinner is one of my very favorite meals!)

First, let me say, how sorry I am, to hear about the loss of your son. I had no idea, and I can't imagine living with that.

    Second...on a much happier note >>
    Happy Belated Anniversary!!

    Third...
I like your tables and how you switched out things and gave them all a different look. Love the Black Stems, along with your black plates. They add such dramatic contrast to the table with the red and white. I can see many ways to use them, for so many occasions. Just as you did here, with changing out the accessories. I like your Valentine table with the red flutes and the Red roses..also I agree those Red Plates work nicely with your dishes. If you didn't 'tattle' that the red heart dishes and flutes were plastic...I would never have known! lol Also, your white scalloped dishes are very lovely too. I can see so many possibilites with them too. Glad you got time to show us your tables. I enjoyed seeing them.

I also just want to say how sorry I am to hear of the loss of your son. I also lost my son 12 years ago. All holidays and family anniverseries can bring bittersweet memories. I hope having your son's vase with you on these days brings you comfort. Your tables are beautiful - i especially like the red heart plates and would not have known they were plastic. Somehow all this decorating for the holidays has given me something to concentrate on and has made it easier for me to go on living through the holidays. I know that is what our sons would want us to do. Again, lovely tables and happy belated anniversary! That, too, is one of my favorite meals. Something about comfort food!!!

First off, congratulations on your 36th--that is a wonderful milestone in your life and really something to celebrate.

I too am so sorry about the loss of your son. What a heart wrenching thing to have to experience. Delph, you too? I am so very sorry to hear that. Wish I could give you both a big hug. Hang in there.

I'm so glad that being able to create pretty tables and share ideas on here has helped both of you cope with the holidays a little better.

Now, about these tables--Printer you did really good! You may be new at this, but you pulled it off just great! First off, I'm loving your napkins with the hearts, and you can never go wrong with roses on the table. I have some octagon black plates similar to yours. They look so good with your red chargers and the red heart plates. Those look perfect for Valentine's. I'd be happy to have a meal at each of your pretty tables.

And speaking of the plastic plates, your's look really nice and the shape was perfect. I looked at some pretty glittery heart shaped ones at Target this year but they were like $3.99 each! I thought that was a bit high for not being ceramic, so I passed on them.

So these tables were a big success, so we'll be looking forward to more in the future from you, okay? ;o)

Congrats on your anniversary! I am also so sorry to hear about the loss of your son. Its great that you are using his vase in your special tables.

And both your tables look fantastic. Love the napkins and the place card holders. And your red chargers! And the pic with your dinner is making me hungry already. Very nice! And the red velvet cake sounds amazing.

Luvs, the red plastic heart plates came from Target. I bought them on sale and only got two or that size and two of the smaller ones. I went back the night before Valentines and they had two more of each and that was all and they had clearnaced them! Yea!

The white napkins with the hearts were from Target Dollar Spot.

Thanks for the support ladies. This place is great therapy.

Printer, your tables are lovely. I am a big fan of the red, black & white colours for Valentine's and you have done a good job using them. I, too love the heart shaped plates and flutes but my fav, is those napkins with the hearts on them - how perfect for V day!

The large floral arrangement your sister & BIL gave you at such a sad time in your life must have special meaning for you and how wonderful that you can use it for special holiday settings. Being so tall, it does make it difficult to use as a centerpiece. I have seen pics of tables for two set at a dining room table (without taking out a leaf)where they put tall floral arrangements and all the accessories on one end of the table and then just have the two place settings. I would like to try that sometime.

Happy belated anniversary and so sorry to hear that you have had to suffer such a tragic loss. I am glad you think this forum is good therapy.

What pretty tables! I especially love how you've added the white lace table topper over the red tablecloth. Everything just pops with that white, doesn't it? The red glasses are a nice touch for V'Day.
