closet systems

I have CA closets in my current house that we put in. In my new house, the builder can do the closets, but it looks like they do all fixed shelving. I want to consider other options. Has anyone ever heard of or used Easy Closets? Or any other brand of closet system. I want something similar to CA closets but without the "middleman."

Thanks.

Your contractor should have access to the same material CA closets uses (predrilled melamine panels) so that you could have adjustable shelving where you would like it. I have heard of Easy Closets on this forum - you might try a search. Good Luck!

I can't vouch for Ca Closets, but I've done more closets in Elfa than I can recall.

Our contractor recommended Easy Closets and they focus on very high end homes. Said they were of equal quality to CA closets.

we got a qoute from CA Closet cuz they were at costco
and ended up ordering from Easy Closests for half
of course Hubby had to install

we had something like 13 closests (knocked down our home and rebuilt) and it took him something like 7 months but and the end of our project saving $$ was better than spending...

1 year later I still love the closests, if I recall correctly they had more customizing options than the others we looked at (CA closests, lowes & Orchards) and I liked the online designing.

M3sw, thanks for the response. I think we will do these too. I love CA Closets, but I need to save the $ and these look similar and lots of options!

Talk to your builder about what you want exactly. I used easy closets to come up with the layout, printed off the pictures of the design and gave to my trim carpenter. He did an amazing job, including tilted shoe racks that he had never before done. Since I asked, though, he did it. The custom closet was ridiculously inexpensive having our trim carpenter do it and it was completely custom. The closet had some weird dimensions. Using a company like Easy Closets would have meant having some empty space (b/c they have set sizes), but the trim carpeter made use of the entire space. It never hurts to ask.

Soonermagic, great idea! That is exactly what I should do--design my closet and then have my guy do it. My builder said he would be cheaper anyway. Do you have anything adjustable? My CA Closets are adjustable but I have never adjusted them (though I did in the kids' closets right after I got them).

We did exactly what sooner did. I handed the trim carpenter the drawings we made using the on-line software and they made them to those specs (sort of).

We wound up purchasing an unfinished 6 drawer dresser and they incorporated that into the closet shelving. When it was all painted - it looked like it was a custom piece, all integrated. It turned out to be cheaper to buy the piece alrteady made - rather than have the trim carpenter make it from scratch.

It isn't hard to make adjustable shelving if that is what you want. The thing I like about custom on-site shelving is that the walls are never perfect and the on-line software does not handle odd shaped closets too well - both of which we had. When the shelves are cut on site, they can make them fit perfectly into the space.

In the end, we spent less and got a really nice closet system that maximized the use of available closet space.
