Sears Outlet-Your Experiences?
I am looking online at the the Sears Outlets in my area. My goal is to change out my kitchen appliances to stainless steel. I don't need matchy-matchy brands, I would rather pick and choose by ratings and features. I would like to take the recommendations from this list for each appliance and pick them off one-by-one, buying each item as my budget allows. I figure that this might be a good way to get some upgraded models at an overall good price point.
So here are my questions: Do outlet items have the same guarantee as new ones have? How about delivery and installation? Are we on our own for that? (I guess that if we could get delivery that might change my mind about spacing out the purchases so that we could get one delivery charge.) What have been your experiences with Sears Outlet appliances? Any words of wisdom?? Thank you.

We purchased a refrigerator there and had it delivered, and paid a fee to have them remove our old one as well. I don't remember what the warranty was, as we were selling the house.

The Sears outlets are great but you may have to keep going back to get what you want. I have found 3 incredible fridge deals, a cooktop and my sister got a pro style range there for cheap also. The boxes are marked whether the appliance is new or used and the damage if there is any.
My last purchase was a Jenn Air French Door fridge in stainless for $1600. There was a small black mark on the top corner that caused the price to drop from the retail $3600 down to the discounted one.
They do not have a ton of dishwashers but they they have what seems like acres of washers/dryers and fridges. As far as warranties and deliveries, it is exactly like buying from Sears. They also have electronic items like flat screen TVs and stereos.
Good luck

Bought a refirgerator and duel fuel stove a few years ago. Both are working perfectly, had to have the repair guy come out a couple of years ago (someone did not pay attention to the instructions on how to clean the oven properly) great service did not have to pay for it because we bought the extended warranty. So far no complaints.

They will have scratch and dent merchandise as well as returns and floor models. They also have warehouse discontinued items that will still be in the original packaging, just unsold.
Their merchandise changes so you need to keep looking to see what shows up during a given week/month.
You can get a great deal if you can find what you want. The merchandise varies, so you have to check regularly if you are looking for a specific model. Heck, I even saw a Kenmore freestanding induction range, and I've seen GE Cafe ranges. You can search online, but not sure listings are really up to date.
LOL, I even see decent amounts of bisque for those who want it.
I believe they honor the standard warranty.

I know there are some that discount the price off of the list price so the numbers look better. If compared to the same unit in a retail store with the retail price then it isn't as large of a savings after all. Not all places use this practice.
Don't overlook other possible dealers. There are some that only sell scratch and dents and others like Sears that get returns and resell them. Best Buy had some outstanding buys when we were in there this past week -- including some FD stainless fridges. We saw the 4 door LG for $1300 with only a small ding under the dispenser. It was selling for almost 3 times that if perfect.
Do your research on pricing. As someone said, the percentage off is off the "list price". I have seen my Kenmore induction range there, reconditioned, they want more for it at the outlet then I paid for on sale brand new.

I got a fridge there once. My old one had died. I was able to get it delivered the next day and saved about $1000 over the usual sale price. (I had been planning on getting the fridge since I'd remodeled, but had been procrastinating since the old one still worked. So I knew what it went on sale for.) Delivery, "installation" (it was a freestanding model), and disposal of old one was an extra $50.
I never found the dent. You do get to see what you buy and can see if it ever had food in it or still had the guts shrink wrapped (I am PICKY about some things heh heh). What you see is what you get. No surprises, full warranty (sometimes covering whatever is wrong with it).
It's certainly worth checking out.

I used to think they had great deals, and I believe they did in the past. The last time I went in, though, I looked at 'scratch and dent' laundry equipment, and it was priced higher than the same new and 'perfect' units at Lowes. One advantage might be that it is there...in stock, and you can have it today. So many appliances I've researched lately take weeks to come in. OK if you don't NEED one, but when something breaks, I don't have 3-6 weeks to wait.

We purchased a washer that has never worked right. This was at the Winter Park outlet. After six days, including a call to corporate, we have been unable to get anyone to return our calls or see us in the store that will accept responsibility to discuss this situation. After reading all the other complaints, I give Sears three years to be in business.

Sears and Sears outlet are two different companies. many people have given them only three years on multiple occasions. No one quite knows why they've managed to stay in business.

My story: I bought a washer from a Sears Outlet store
advertised on their website as having that item. That after chatting customer service to find
out what they meant by “buying AS IS” as I could not believe they would mean
just that. My 2nd huge mistake (after
buying from these people at all) as I believed him when he said they just want
to make sure I know I was buying refurbished.
Shortly, that store called to say they did NOT actually have that
item. I found the item in a different
store also as advertised in stock on Sears Outlet Website but for $70 more;
exact same item. I chatted Sears
customer service again for over ½ hour trying to get some assistance in transferring
my payment to the second store as I didn’t have the funds in one day to buy 2 washers. I also wanted, since it was their advertised
error, them to honor the 1st store price. They could do nothing to help me,
NOTHING. I called their customer service
number. I spent over ½ hour with that
lady. She was just as unable to assist
me in either of those requests. I
requested to speak to a supervisor, busy (of course) and would have to call me
back. I asked her then if she could at
least call the 2nd store to check stock. She was quite put out, unwilling to put out
any customer service effort, but finally in a disgusted voice agreed. I waited on hold for over 15 minutes to decide
she was not coming back on the line. I
called the 2nd store myself.
Yes the lady from Sears main did call their store “some time ago” he
said. So she did not intend to come back
on the line to me. No, they do not have
the item as Sears Outlet web advertised.
No, the supervisor did NOT ever call me back. The 1st store did refund me but the
bank, as normal, takes 7-10 days to process.
Now, I have a broken washer and my money tied up and no way to get
another washer. All this and I was 1
hour late for work and spent hundreds of dollars and about 3 total hours with
absolutely nothing but frustration and a lesson well learned to show for any of
it. Apparently, this is the way Sears
runs their business and customer service these days. What happened to the good ole Sears? Never, never again will I deal with Sears and
if you are smart, you will heed the warnings you read and stay away from Sears
also. - 11 years ago
Continuing saga....Corporate gave us the name of a regional person who they said might be able to help. Left a message. No response. Called again, but lady said the person did not exist. Decided to stop by the outlet again. Asked to speak to a manager. Was introduced to a young man, who said he was the floor manager. Explained our problem, but was told it was above his authority. Was told the store manager was on a conference call and would be tied up for a while. Left both our numbers. Have not heard a word. Mr. Sears would be rolling over in his grave. He didnt create such a "company" dodging small problems. I have not used any names of employees to this point, but soon may have to be a butt.

My experience with Sears outlet was the exact opposite of the above poster.
I saw a 36" pro range for $1800 on the outlet site. I call the store inquire about condition and availability of shipping. I am told the range is brand new. That it had been returned because it could not be converted to propane. But, they will not ship it. I then ask if I set up freight, will they get it ready to be picked up. They say yes. We set up freight delivery and everything is a go.
Range arrives at my home. It is literally in pieces. They had placed it on a pallet, not attached to just on it, and wrapped it one layer of bubble wrap. The door is off, feet are broken, trim is bend, knobs broken, and to top it all off, it is a used range.
There was a lot of back and forth between us, the store, corporate, and the shipper for about 2 weeks or so. In the end, we ended up with Sears replacing the range with a brand new still in the box range and the shipper refunding our shipping costs.
Sears has always been good to us.

This is precisely the problem with Sears. They operate their repair business like this too. Sure, eventually your appliance will be in working order again, and you won't be completely left out to dry. But it rarely happens without a fair share of grief and wasted time on the customer's part.
Yes, if we were in the middle of a remodel or something, it could have been a problem. But, mine is still in the garage on the pallet waiting for future kitchen. Time or use was not an issue for us.

My experience was like Wendy's, the stove was in great shape in the store and trashed when delivered as they did not cover it with anything in transit. I I had taken photos of it in the store and refused delivery when this trashed stove was delivered. It took months to get a credit. That same now thrashed stove is still for sale in that outlet. Sears was out $1600 and I was out a good stove. Why in the h*** would you run a business like this? You take a perfectly good asset and trash it rather than sell it...? Moral of this story: if you cannot take it home with you don't buy it there. Sears outlet shareholders should hold the store managers and the executives who control them criminally liable for this deliberate waste of assets.

I only gave this 1 star, but they deserve less than 1 star.
I placed an order with Sears Outlet for an oven, with shipping included, as it was out of state.
The people on the phone are nice, but once they take your order they are completely unconcerned for the delivery and execution of the order ! I was promised an 8 day delivery and after 8 days I started calling to see where it was and after 6 days of calling and getting false answers and lies, they finally told me the item had NEVER been shipped. So I wasted 15 days of my time and my customers time on this order. I cancelled the order and went to Best Buy and bought the same item there and I suggest you do the same !!! - 11 years ago
I ordered a GE Advantium oven online from the Sear Outlet. In the pictures it looked great, upon arrival it had a huge hole in the door. There was absolutely no packing in the box just the oven and the box. Sears told me to take it up with UPS. Bottom line, I ended up sending it back and after battling with Sears. I finally gave up and got AMEX to reverse the charge.

I had a similar experiece last spring. We were buying appliances for a rental. When we drove over an hour to the store we found the stove they had listed OL was not there. We drove another hour and a half to another outlet and they had the stove but higher price than the first store. We paid it. We also bought a DW and refrigerator. When we got the DW to the apt our guy could not install it b/c it was missing clips to hold it to the counter. Called the store and they had none and claimed none of the others in stock had any. I went to appliance repair stores locally and regular Sears no clips and no generic clips. After 2 months of making it my project and threatening them with our atty general I received clips.($35) By this time all work was finished and I paid a service call to my handyman to drill into the countertop and install the DW.
Save yourself the stress and money. Don't go to Sears Outlet!

I purchased a floor model Samsung Refrigerator on 3/26/15 from the sears outlet store in Minneapolis MN. The problems started when the cashier forgot to take off an additional 5% for using my Sears card for payment. The store manager Jim R. tried to correct the problem but could not figure out how to. He assured me he would take care of it the next day. I had to dispute the credit card /charge in order to get the 5% discount taken care of. This was a huge hassle. I started having issues in April with the refrigerator not cooling. I tried unplugging the fridge and resetting it to no avail. I ended up getting 40 pounds of ice and putting every thing in coolers. I called sears service and Samsung and they gave me the run around with things to try to make the fridge work. The following morning the fridge decided it was going to start working again. I had made an appointment with the sears service people to come and fix the fridge at no charge. When the tech arrived a few days later the fridge was working, go figure. The tech opened the door and said " looks like it working". He then proceeded to tell me that his company does not stock any parts or diagnostic tools for Samsung fridges. Why the hell did they even bother coming out? A few months later they tried sending me a bill for this awesome service call. Nice try! After this service call I contacted Jim R. (Store Manager) about returning the fridge. This guy is king of excuses. I have records of every phone call I made to him regarding the return of this fridge, countless times he promised to call me back with a resolution. Not once did I ever get a call from this useless idiot. Every single call was originated by me. I think he wants me to just go away? It is now October 2015 and this fridge continues to stop cooling randomly. I try everything under the sun to make it work. It eventually starts cooling again when it feels like it. This is completely unacceptable!
According to the "Customer Solutions Commitment" that I signed when I purchased this appliance under the "Return Policy" it states " We will be happy to accept your "In Warranty" returned product after a Product Repair Technician has determined the product is not repairable.
If your tech comes out and can not fix the fridge take it back! It is really that simple. I have documented exactly what the symptoms were when the fridge failed and the tech did nothing. Replace something, I don't care if your just throwing parts at it. Do SOMETHING! I have been stuck with this fridge for 7 months now because Jim R. is about as useless as they come when it comes to customer service.
Save your self the agony and avoid this store at all costs! I would gladly pay full price for a product before dealing with crooks like Jim R. at the Minneapolis MN Sears Outlet Store.

I gave Sears Outlet three years to fold. I'm not sure it will be that long. None of the managers will return a call to discuss an issue. I get some satisfaction knowing these managers will be looking for a job soon.

Just to add to all above, I have had a very horrible experience with the Sears Outlet as well. I ordered the item on line. I understood it was refurbished but as there was an image online of the item I was to get, I felt okay about it. However, the item they delivered (or tried to deliver to me) was not the one in the photo as the one they brought had many more dents and did not even have handle. I didn't even let them take it off the truck. While they said they would refund my money, I am still waiting for it to get back to the bank and they would not under any circumstance refund the $90 delivery charge. Even though they were the ones mis-representing the product. The are slimy, unhelpful and untruthful. Don't do business with them!!!
Good for you Dawn! You were smart to refuse delivery. It will take you months to get that credit because somebody is supposed to call you back and upsell a replacement product. I think you will need to make a kind of a pest of yourself to get the refund. Or perhaps you can get your credit card company involved.

I purchased on the sears outlet a kitchenaid fridge.
On the description it said “SCRATCH ON ONE SIDE”The fridge came terribly bad packed. No more than a piece or cardboard covering 40% of the whole unit.
Now that I have the item it has scratches and dents on the front. And one of the interior shelves is missing.
Besides, The fridge is actually NOT WORKING, a technician come to check it and the compressor is busted. This whole repair will cost 350$ for replacing the door, $70 for the missing shelf plus $400 for the compressor.
I am very disappointed because I was not expecting an item in such mediocre shape. Specially since they did not specify it.
I ended up paying more than the fridge brand new, plus my headaches.
I would stay away from that website,

I visited a local Sears Outlet recently. There is no way I would buy anything there at any price. The "manager" was sitting at a desk out in the open doing nothing. I tried to ask him about one of the ranges - which was in fact directly behind him where he was sitting - and he could barely stir himself to look around at it. He told me he didn't know anything about it, or about any of the other ranges in the store. He was rude and dismissive and obviously thought a customer asking him a question was an imposition and a waste of his time. This particular stove had some weird half-shelf or something - I couldn't figure out what it was even for, but having pulled it out, I couldn't get it to go back in. When I asked for help with this, the guy acted annoyed and again reiterated that he didn't know anything about the appliance he was sitting 3 feet away from. I finally just left it hanging open with that weird shelf askew and walked out of the store. I won't ever be going back.
The sad thing is that there don't seem to be any reasonable options for those of us shopping for appliances any more. They all want you to order online and buy sight unseen. I am unwilling to buy something I can't see and test out. I looked at one stove priced at over $1500 and the bottom drawer was flimsy and hard to open and close. So even if you're willing to spend the bucks, there are serious quality issues.
I've noticed this at Target, Home Depot and Lowes as well - you go in looking for something they supposedly stock only to have them tell you to go online and order it. I've got news for you - if I wanted to order something online, I'm going to shop for the best price, and you guys don't have it. Telling me to order from your online store just guarantees a lost sale. The sole thing brick-n-mortar stores have going for them is the ability to actually see what you are buying. If you're not going to stock the things you sell, you might as well just close up. Play to your strengths, not your weaknesses.

I bought a Whirlpool dryer online from them no muss no fuss. Almost the same price as the used appliabce store, but for new. They delivered it promptly and took the old one. Make sure to keep the cord.
Anyway the circuit board was defective. They replaced it no charge. All in all, just fine for what it was - a cheap way to replace a dryer. I would do it again, but I don't see how they make money.
I bought an LG dryer from them about a year ago. It was missing the drying rack, so I contacted their customer service and they refunded me the cost of the rack. Everything else has worked fine, and I saved a couple hundred bucks.
Never again. I ordered a dryer. They went to the wrong address the first delivery date. The second date they did not call or show up. The third time they finally arrived but the dryer was beat to pieces. Missing legs, big dents, missing vent covers, etc. That was ~45 days ago and I am still trying to get a refund. Good thing I put it on a credit card.
