How would these work?

I tried to find the post that had the candleholder and bird spraypainted white but couldn't find it.

Anyway, I really liked the idea but knew I didn't have any wooden candleholders. I then remembered that I had picked up this metal one and I have this terra cota bird--do you think these would work if I spray painted them white and added the moss of course?

I had another "fatter" bird from Dollar Tree, but couldn't find it this morning. It might be a little bigger than this one. I also have some of those smaller Dollar Tree birds too. I thought this candleholder might work since it has a nice big "nest" area. It was a 99 cent TS find and I've never ever used it. Do you think this bird is the right size/scale for it? Or do I need to find that bigger one? And will this metal candleholder work or is it too ornate for the "look"? Help please, you won't hurt my feelings--I'm just experimenting at this point and can't make a decision. ;o(

I think the little bird you have now is just the right size (love the candlestick to) , and would be a good "fit" without overpowering the stick itself.

I think the white spray paint will tone down any ornateness (Is that a word?), so I wouldn't worry about that. In the original post that gave you the inspiration, was the candlestick as high? Can you plop the bigger bird on it so we can see the difference, just to make sure? I love the one that's on there right now.

I think it will look so different when both pieces are painted white and the moss is between them. Go for it, the worst that can happen is that you use them separately. I love this idea.

    Here's the link.

Glad Luckygal posted the original post. I can already tell I'm going to like yours better.

Luv, that's a perfect pairing. I can't wait to see it painted and the nest part added. I really like this bird a lot.

Did you get back to DT and see if they had the new birds at yours? Those 4 colorful ones?

    Luvs,
I agree with everyone...I think the two will compliment
each other perfectly once painted. They both are such nice pieces.
I thought the original post was so inspiring...and
now I'm really looking forward to seeing your end results.

I was at Family Dollar the other day, and didn't see any birds there at all :(

    Luvs,
I think they will be perfect together and the nest area on your candlestick will make a very appropriate size for your birdie!! Of course, all of us golfers really love birdies!! LOL
    Go for it girlfriend.
    Cheers,

LG, thanks for finding that blog post for me. Gosh, I'm really not very observant--I thought she used a wooden candle holder! I'm still trying to find the bigger bird and will show you that one before I glue things together. I'll go ahead and get the candleholder painted while I search. Thanks for all your opinions and encouragement--I appreciate them all. Luvs

I think you should try this if you can't find your other bird too. I like your bird and candlestick so can't imagine it not looking good finished. Will wait anxiously for the finished project.

Okay, I not only found the other bird I was thinking of, but a little blue bird too.

So now I have small, medium, and large choices.

Take a look please and see which one you think would look best.

The big one is ceramic and has some nice raised detail on it's wing and fits the top perfectly. The medium one which is the bluebird is some kind of hard plastic and has a more textured surface. And the little one that I showed you yesterday is terra cota and has a sweet looking face.

I like 2 and 3..1 may be a tad big! Is this for outside or in? I am late to the discussion!
You have such a great eye, I am sure you will do a great job!

It's nice to have options :).
It's hard for me to be "judgemental" but....
I don't like the first one for this particular project (sorry) because although a pretty little fellow he looks to big and by the time you add the nest I think it'll be to much for the scale of the bottom part of the candlestick. (I'm thinking he'd work well in a much bigger setting like a pillar candle plate/dish ect).
The second one is really detailed and his tail is longer so I think he'd work well on a less ornate candlestick allowing him to show off and not "compete" so much.
I'm voting for the little terra cotta guy. To me, he just looks like a perfect fit.
Just my opinion of course :).

I second everything that MM said. ;o)

I think the bigger one is too big and too square looking (too sharp edged) for the candlestick. Their styles just don't seem to go well together for some reason. Maybe it wouldn't matter so much once they are both sprayed white.

For me, it's sort of a toss-up with 2 and 3. Either one will look nice. I agree with MM's assesment of bird no. 2, but that's also the very reason I'd lean toward picking him (her). I rather like the extension of the tail and think it gives more weight to the bird, which should be the focal point of the whole business.

Now here's the funny part: Isn't it crazy how we put so much thought into something that we could just go right ahead and make and no one (including ourselves) would ever think looked anything but great! OCD, that's me for sure.

I'm voting for #3. I think he is just the cutest!!
But, #2 would look fine also. It's a matter of personal taste.

What a fun thing. I love the second bird on that candlestick. I would put it on a colorful nest or add some pastel colored eggs with nest under it and not paint them.

I would take #3 and find a new candlestick and paint them and place a nest with them. JMO and you asked.LOL
