Zephyr Hurricane report

Our Zephyr Hurricane vent (695 cfm) was installed this weekend.

- It's somewhat noisy, and the noise is the same on all three speeds. However, it's not a rattling or whining noise; just the sound of air rushing. It seems like a solid piece of machinery.

- I tested out its venting abilities by frying some tortillas on a front burner. When you turn on the fan, you can feel the breeze, and smoke looks like it's being pulled up. Our installation is at the minimum height (26" above the surface). It did keep the hot smoke from drifting around the room (the smoke alarm didn't go off), but the odor of frying was still lingering in the house this morning, so I was disappointed about that. I wonder if it was installed correctly (so it vents outside)?

- The halogen lights provide good working light. I don't like the fact that when you turn the fan off, the lights go off as well, although you can turn them on separately from the fan. (How long do those bulbs last, anyway? On our old microhood, we had the same bulb for nine years -- it had never burned out!)

- It looks fine and fits the space well.
