Sounds like you have something growing in the drain. Have you tried changing detergents? I know it's not the same thing, but I had this problem with my front loader washer and learned on the laundry forum that I shouldn't use liquid detergents or fabric softener (apparently wax is formulations creates a fertile breeding ground for some nasty smelling bugs). As soon as I switched to powder the problem went away.

It also could be that the filter in the wash cabinet has some kind of debris. Miele recommends that you clean the filter every 4-6 months. The instructions are easy and are in the DW's instruction manual under "User Maintenance" section. I've only done it about once a year, but have found a couple of little things in there that would probably smell if the machine hadn't been run for a few days.

I use Cascade Complete Powder (I have a front loader too) and also that's what the Miele guy recommended. As to cleaning the filter, do you mean the metal plate thingy in the bottom that has a handle on it and a conical shaped filter inside? Hmm, I've cleaned it but not in a few months...

Consider running something like Dishwasher magic through your machine. I wonder if you have something stuck in the drain. You can also run some baking soda down the drain and run the garbage disposal. I don't have a problem with my Miele but I regularly run the dishwasher cleaner three times a year. I also put lemons down my garbage disposal monthly to clean the beast.

Dishwasher magic, I'll pick some up. I also regularly use citrus fruits and dispose of them in the garbage disposal, so that's already good. Besides, it doesn't seem to smell.

After months of trying everything else, I FINALLY found something that worked: Run the Miele dishwasher on the hottest cycle 3x using “Finish dishwasher hygienic cleaner”. That fully knocked it out.

(I tried probably 5 other products; cleaning out my garbage disposal; installing a “high loop” in the drain; repeatedly running it on the hottest setting; opening the dishwasher it to dry for days at a time … nothing else worked for more than a few days before the stink came back.)

If I hadn’t loved my previous Miele dishwasher I would have given up. This is a known issue with Miele dishwashers, which is shocking to me — I called the appliance store that sold me the thing and they were basically like, “Yep, sucks for you!”

I’m literally posting this on every forum I checked looking for answers!!
