Is this normal?

I am having a refrigerator delivered tomorrow. The appliance company is also "installing it" which means plugging it in and hooking up an existing water line.....last time I did this a decade ago, the same people who delivered did the install. This time I am being told I have a window of time to wait for the delivery 9 - noon and another window of time to wait for the installer. I just called to find out which was the correct delivery window and was told I have separate waits for the delivery and then again for the installer. Is this normal??? I am being charged for both delivery and install.

Typically the delivery people don't install except for plugging it in to make sure it works. With an existing water line, you probably didn't need to pay for installing the fridge - you could have done it yourself - but it sounds like they're sending someone separate to do just that.

Not sure what "Typical" is "Sir Weissman"

I bought a washer and dryer from Pacific Sales the same folks that delivered it, installed it, and right on schedule too, and I think it was about $77 which included the delivery and the install and they put in a new gas line, new water hoses for the washer and new tubing for the vent for the gas dryer.

All our kitchen appliances were installed by our cabinet maker along with a "General Handiman" I hired to do anything that the cabinet maker couldn't. I was the KD, so I can's say, "For Sure" how they would have handled Kitchen Appliances.

I think were I proposed the same "Deal" that the Op got here I would Exclam KMW???? and make them do better.

I do/did buy a lotta stuff from Pacific Sales--so maybe I have some "Pull" there---They want my business, I make them "Earn it"!!!!

Nuff Said (and as usual), probably too Much--(Ya Thinks)??

I was basing it on my experience - the delivery guys delivered and plugged it in - they said "we don't do water". In this case, it was free delivery and haul off of the old one. I had my GC hook up the water.

Best Buy did the same thing to me for a dishwasher. It all depends on where it's coming from and who is supposed to pick it up. In my case, I ordered it from a Best Buy near my work because it was easier for me to go there at lunch. It turns out that because of that, they wanted to schedule the delivery on one day and then install on a later date. They have a delivery service that takes the units from the regional warehouse to the store that made the sale and then the installers pick it up from there and bring it to the installation location. Since I live over 20mi from the store I bought it from, they have to have the unit delivered directly to my house instead of to the store and then the installers would show up the next day to install it. The person I spoke with said it was some union thing where the installers couldn't pick up and deliver the appliance past a certain distance but I don't know if that's is the real reason. I basically said it was a deal breaker to have to stay home two days for a dishwasher and one of the supervisors called got them scheduled the same day. Delivery was before noon and install was afternoon which was not ideal but workable.

I wouldn't say it was typical but I think does happen especially if the install is anything more than plugging it in. In my case (and possibly yours) the delivery is likely curbside meaning they'll possibly drag it into the garage if you beg but they won't do any unpacking or moving it into the house.

My Best Buy dw was similar, but it was delivered to the house and I only live about 3 miles from their store, so don't think the distance thing you were told is correct, and least not where I live. Delivery did bring it in the house. Installation guy came the next day, unpacked it and installed.
