Well, the bidet I had in my previous home was a horizontal spray, and I liked that very much. I chose the horizontal spray because I felt it was more sanitary. Not saying that anyone who has a vertical sprayer has an unsanitary bidet...(gotta put in those disclaimers before I get squashed to the ground). It was just a choice I had to make...and that was my deciding reason *shrug*

The Washlet I have is a vertical spray. It seems to work better for rear cleaning than for feminine washing. However, it works for both, and since I did not have room for a seperate bidet, I am darn grateful and worship the washlet :-)

Having had a vertical spray washlet, and a horizontal spray bidet, if I were purchasing another seperate bidet I would choose the horizontal spray again.

i've had a bidet for over 20 years and found that most women prefer a vertical spray while men like a horizontal.

I'm a man and I have to say I prefer a vertical (Spanish style?) over the horizontal (Italian?). Fortunately my house came with a vertical. Now to fix the leaky diverter (Kohler).

Is there some reason you prefer a stand alone?

I am having a Toto integrated washlet installed in my remodel and the wand seems to have options to satisfy both areas :-)

I personally think it would be more convenient not to transfer to a second seat in order to finish toileting - what do you think is the advantage of separate bidets?

I am genuinely curious - I'm not attempting to foist my choice but wondering what made you go in the direction of two separate units.

@georgia: Toto has a new "modern" style that doesn't have that look. It's much thinner and when you combine it with the Connect Plus Toto toilets, it doesn't have the bulky look you seem to be describing.

Also you can buy fully integrated lines - the least expensive one is more or less the same price as a top of the line washlet and toilet.

So essentially it would be form over function in terms of having to transfer to a separate unit to wash. I am thinking of those times when I have to shuffle a few steps because someone forgot to load toilet paper - wouldn't it be the equivalent?

In terms of my own bathroom, it's moot as I wouldn't have space for two separate units but am curious as to why it's preferred if one had the choice of integrated or two separate units.

it's the connect plus that hurts my eyes--i can't get that nursing home image out of my head when i see it.

fyi: i had a soap dish with a towel rack near my bidet and it worked perfectly.

Looking for a modern European style stand alone bidet with vertical spray. Does anyone have a brand suggestion? Most of the ones we found have a horizontal spray.

We bought a really affordable Gerber vertical spray 2 years ago but I believe they discontinued it. You might find one in one of the plumbing wearhouses. Vertical spray is the only way to go for a female. Good luck.
