Please help me decide between these appliances

We have been narrowing down our choices, but I still can't quite decide. Would really appreciate any opinions or advice.

1. Fridge - bottom-freezer single-door 33'' wide

GE Profile vs KitchenAid/Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana/Kenmore (seems like these are all essentially the same fridge)

We prefer the configuration of the GE, especially the freezer. I've been reading here though about problems with the GE. Does anyone know if there are more problems with the GE than other brands? Do the problems always seem to be related to the icemaker?

2. Range - 30'' freestanding gas range

GE Profile vs LG

I really like the look of the LG. Aside from that it seems to be essentially the same as the GE Profile, except that the GE comes with the griddle.

3. Dishwasher - 24''

Bosch vs KitchenAid

I realize that the Bosch doesn't have heated drying, but that doesn't bother me.

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Have you missed the news that GE is going out of the appliance business? At least until the outcome of that is clear it would seem even riskier than before to go with GE.

I struggled with the frig decision. There just didn't seem to be anything that fit my needs and had an even passable reputation. I ended up with the JennAir 36" FD, another sibling of Maytag/Amana/etc. So far I have been pleasantly surprised.

we had the GE fridge you mention and did have issues with the ice dispenser. the ice would dump out before it was completely frozen and so it would all stick together. it was a mess. had to pull out the big frozen ice block once a week and thaw it out.

we now have an amana bottom freezer french door 36" and it's much better.

another thing about the GE was that it never seemed like it could get beverages *really* cold. that bugged me.

Before doing a Bosch dw, look at the cycle times. With a bit depending on model and what you expect a dw to do, it can run for nearly two hours.

Having a recent model ge profile gas slide-in, I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe look at the Bosch(Siemens) free standing range or the Whirlpool gold line.

Just purchased a Bosch this weekend. Obviously not installed yet, so no experience with cycle times. Not too concerned about that really, current dw ran 90 minutes.

Anyway, based on convos with sales people, their recommendation was either KA or Bosch, so don't think you can go wrong.

our bosch dw runs about 100 minutes. not an issue, since we usually start it after dinner and empty it in the morning.

one nice thing about the bosch dw's is that the computer figures out the right cycle time, based on your water temperature and how dirty the dishes are when you put'em in there.

we just got our new one and the cycle time was set at 160 minutes. each time we've run it, the cycle time has been set lower, so it's 'learning' about our individual situation and adjusting accordingly.

we've had two bosch dw's and i've loved them. dishes are always clean, they run very quiet, the seamless stainless steel tub never gets gooky or dirty, and the drying seems to work better than heated dw's, which amazes me. the new ones now have a small LED light that shines red on the floor below it, so you know it's on. they're so quiet that people had trouble telling and opened the door mid-cycle inadvertantly.

HHHMMMM.... I didn't know about GE when I bought my appliances approx 4 mos ago, anyway, I have the GE Profile FD 36" fridge with icemaker on the outside and freezer in the bottom and it works beautifully, not a problem with "iceblocks" mentioned earlier (but I haven't gone through a 'Hot" season with it yet) and the beverages seem really much colder than our old fridge (Kenmore side by side with icemaker in door)

Also have been through four dw's in the last five months, have ended up with KA, higher end model and I love it, has the controls on the top and a countdown monitor so I know how long it will be running, also have found that I can run it with the light/china and dry cycle and it does a great job even on very dirty dishes. It also has a sensor you can set to decide for itself how long to run, but in all the dws of the past months, this seemed to add a LONG time to the run time on all the models.

    Hope this helps,

"Also have been through four dw's in the last five months, have ended up with KA, higher end model and I love it".....

    Couple of questions....

    1. Which model number of KA did you end up getting?

    2. What were the other DW's you went thru - also KA? or other brands??
