36' Wolf Induction Unit

I don't think I have seen any info on the Wolf unit so, hopefully, I am not duplicating anything here.

According to the person at our local Wolf showroom, the 36" unit will have:

1 x 12" center burner: 3,000W - 4,000W with boost

2 medium burners: 1800W - 3,000W with boost?

2 small burners: 1200W - 3,000W with boost?

She couldn't tell me how power sharing would work, or if the unit had timers.

Bassed on the info so far, it doesn't seem to offer any obvious advantages over other units out there.

Scheduled delivery - mid September

Akrogirl - any news on price? I got a price from Salon Blue Ridge this am on the 36" De Dietrich and it was right in line w/Kenmore & Electrolux.

I think the dedietrich is a couple of hundred more than the kenmore and electrolux

Apparently, list price for the 36" unit will be $3,500!

Probably. I was given a price of $2700 for the 30". This is what pushed me towards the DeDietrich.

$3.5k for the Wolf 36in is in line with Viking. You have to pay a steep premium for the Wolf or Subzero brand. I am not expecting any performance advantage over other induction tops out there but my wife likes the look of the Wolf so we will have to pay the premium. We have a Wolf 36in electric now but want to upgrade to induction and keep the same look. Ugh...3.5k

    Jono123,

How did you like the Wolf 36"? I was toying with the idea of one, but really would like to venture on to the induction. However, as you said, "Ugh...3.5K". I'm also looking at the Viking all induction, but I'm a little uncomfortable with all the talk about Viking's customer service (or lack thereof). However, I have heard that the all induction version has a good track record. Just curious on the Wolf...

    Thanks.

We like the Wolf electric quite a bit. We came from coils and before that, an older smooth top in the previous house. The Wolf heats up way faster than any other electric we have used. Also, our older smoothtop, a GE range, cycled hot and off for temp. Basically it was either on (hot) or off and stayed on more at the higher temp settings. The Wolf does not cycle this way. Medium is just a steady medium heat.

Lastly, the melt burner works very well for melting without burning chocolate. You do not need double burner, nor even need to watch the chocolate much as it melts. It works just like the advertising says it does but the microwave, IMO, is still much beter for melting chocolate.

I would have done induction had it been more available like it is now. Electric tops do not change heat settings quickly. You cannot go from boil to simmer immediately like gas or induction--something I would often use for rice.

I am very much looking forward to getting the new Wolf induction in. I am just waiting to see the specs as we have drawers underneath our cooktop and cannot go with a top that requires more clearance than what we have today. I am hopeful clearance is in line with thier current 15in induction unit and/or our current 36 electric.

Thank you Jono123. I did end up purchasing the Viking hybrid. It was supposed to arrive today. How exciting - NOT! I got a call late last night that it was on backorder. Now just how did that happen - was it there to beging with?????

Now, my question is, since I have a chance to change, do I want to wait on the Wolf? If anyone has any news on its arrival - please...

    Thanks again.

I was going with Diva but have now switched to Wind Crest based on the 12" center power zone & the segment slimmest at 2.5" allowing more room in the drawer below it.

    cheers, whyno

I'm going out to the wolf/subzero showroom on Monday. I'm hoping to see the Wolf. If I were you, I'd take a look at the wolf. I will let you know what I learn on Monday.

Thanks lizzysher. I'm going to a homeshow tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to see one there.

Akrogirl, glad you posted this question in the beginning!!

Sorry fellow GW posters - I wasn't able to get to the home show this past weekend - too busy trying to find granite!!

If anyone has any new details...???

    Thanks!

According to Ray Sola at ABT Appliances (huge brick and mortar store in Glenview IL but sells online too -- I have seen good feedback re service on this forum), they will have the 36" Wolf Induction in November, the price they quoted me was $3200. I have no specs though but I think those are above -- he gave me a catalog with pics but no specs. I do like that it has a large 12" burner.

Thanks. I started a new thread earlier with the same info - sorry, but sometimes I can't tell when a thread has run its course and this one was getting to be pretty long. Anyway, I am seriously thinking of waiting because I like the 12" burner also. The Viking is due to arrive on Tuesday, but it will be going to the store and not to my house. I may see if they would be willing to let me switch it out.

Thanks again - good news for some - they may be able to have it installed in time for T-Day!
