Turkey and dressing, yams, corn casserole, homemade rolls, fruit salad, pea salad, green bean casserole, homemade cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and some sort of chocolate dessert, all of these are somebody's favorite.

3, Do you still serve the dish people inwardly groan when they see, whether it is green bean casserole,candied yams, or something else, because "it just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it"? As above, somebody likes, the greenbean casserole is only for my sister-in-law and her kids.

4. Do your family and guests dress up, or wear jeans? I am sorry to say it's jeans. I would have everybody dress, but it would not go over very good.

5. Visit, watch tv, go hunting (critters or retail goodies), what do you do in the afternoon? We used to always have a baseball game, now we live in town, we always play, games, cards and last year we sang karoke.

1. Do you have any special traditions you always do on Thanksgiving? We always gather all of both families for Thanksgiving. It is a madhouse with about 40 folks ranging from 1 year to 76 years! I do a lot of the cooking, and the rest of the family bring their own specialties to add to the fray!

2, What special foods do you serve? no Auntie's left :^(, but step GD can't live without green bean casserole, so she brings that. Step Daughter only likes cream pies (we like fruit), so she brings those. Step DIL always brings me a pumpkin roll yum! My clan will eat anything if it holds still long enough, so they usually bring odd stuff like ice and firewood (a whole trailer load...sweet!!)

4. Do your family and guests dress up, or wear jeans? I usually wear something with a fall motif, and a nice apron. The sous chef...DH, wears his John Deere apron that DD made for him. DD usually dresses up, and the rest are from there on down to onesies:^)

* We always get up and turn on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on tv. I've watched it every year since I was a kid and love it. For me, (and now my family, too) it's the "official" start of our Thanksgiving and the holiday season. We watch it as we get our special T'Day family breakfast ready and, afterwards, while we get our part of the meal ready to take down to our friend's home for Tday dinner. As we make our breakfast together, we always toast the day with eggnog, another big tradition.

* Our Thanksgiving Day dinner is always the same and we love it. Turkey with Oyster Stuffing; mashed potatoes & gravy; homemade (awesome, yeasty!) crescent rolls; candied yams; my cranberry orange relish; a fresh veggie tray with homemade Ranch dip & a cheese tray, as appetizers; condiment tray with various olives, pickles, etc; Caesar salad with Mandarin orange sections; pumpkin and pecan pies; mulled apple cider; wines and coffee. I've probably left something out, but that's basically been our dinner for the past 20-plus years. Gosh, I love this meal! All of the above are made from scratch by us, too. My friend is a home ec teacher and an incredible cook.

* Nope, we all seem to love everything on our menu.

* We visit. The guys watch some of the football game(s). In the evening we sometimes play "Catch Phrase" or "Apples to Apples"

* Guest, as we host Christmas. These are our best friends and neither of us have any family here in state. But, this year both their kids are living in the Dallas area and their daughter and fiancee have bought a (huge) new home. They can't make it here and invited all of us to come and celebrate Thanksgiving there with them. We told our friends to go, but we aren't going ourselves. It's flu season and DH doesn't want to take more than Thursday thru Sunday off away from his patients. And, he HATES, HATES, HATES the thought of half of those days off being taken up with traveling on the two busiest/worst travel days of the year. (Sigh) So, we're celebrating by ourselves at home for the first time. It'll be festive, but different for us.

* At our friends' home we eat around 2PM and then have a supper of the yummy leftovers around 7PM, but this year ~by ourselves~ we'll probably eat around 6PM and save our leftovers for the next day's dinner.

We're here because this is was my husband's last duty station in the AF. Our son was just graduating from College when my husband retired. He was engaged to a local girl and not going anywhere. Somehow we ended up sticking around. Thanksgiving is usually just us, the kids, and grandkids. A few times we've had others but not too often.

1. Do you have any special traditions you always do on Thanksgiving? My hubby and I watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles and have our first slice of pumpkin pie, on the night before Thanksgiving.

2, What special foods do you serve? Does Auntie bring the Jello salad everone hates, but pretends to eat, not to hurt her feelings? Don't ever tell her I said this, but dil usually brings some of the dessert that she made for the larger TG dinner they go to on her side, earlier in the day. It hasn't always been to my taste, and yes I would eat the whole thing myself rather than hurt her feelings.

Dress or casual~we wear jeans, but a nice shirt~men AND women. NO tee shirts allowed!

What we do~the men watch the games, the women talk........ and drink wine! And we play with the babies.

Host or guest~been both, but *always* bring "the bird"! This year i'll be going back to CA. I'll be the guest but will be more like the hostess since i'll be doing the majority of the cooking and tablesetting. DD is still learning. ;o)!

They don't do Tdinner anymore, so I do it with DD,SIL, 4 DGkids, and DD's Inlaws.

Traditionally, we get up early the next day...have a Big Breakfast, then Drive To Jones Tree Farm, to Cut Down Our Christmas Tree. The last three years, we've put up an Artificial one in the Family Room, however, we still get a Big Live One, for the Front Porch.

I really enjoy reading about the different traditions we have. One recurring theme == family == no matter what the number, two to forty.

It is wayyyy fun too!!! All the littles have to line up at the edge of the fireplace to see how much they have grown each year. We will NEVER be able to sell this house...we would have to take the fireplace with us :^)
