Need appliances. HELP!!!!!

OK, here I am, infrequent poster but habitual lurker. I've been researching appliances for my new build until my eyeballs are about to fall out.

Of course I have a budget, but I don't qute know what it is. That is to say, it's flexible, but not outrageous.

Me: frivolous cook (I say that hoping it means I am the opposite of a serious cook). Looks are important to me (vanity, thy name is ....) But it also counts for resale in what I hope will continue to be an upscale market if/when I ever sell.

Reliability is another big factor. There's nothing I hate more than sitting home waiting for the repair man to (not) show up.

I cook for a family of 3 about 3 - 4 times a week. Looking for opinions on the following tentative selections:

Double oven: Electrolux EI30EW45JS or EW30EW65G. Is there much of a difference? I was all set on this, then saw it in the showroom and thought it looked really small inside. A couple of the Bosch double ovens seem to be priced comparably. Are they worth considering?

LP 36" Rangetop: Electrolux ICON E36GC75GSS; Wolf SRT 366X or RT 366X -- how much are these suckers, anyway? Pricing info online is non-existent. The Wolf would be more for looks (those red knobs). Or should I go with the Bertazzoni, which is a nice price point - around $1600 - but I'm not crazy about the grates.

Fridge: I hate spending the $$$ on the counter depth french door and am considering recessing a standard french door unit into my 6" wall cavity. Can I get a reliable one for under $2000 that has the ice and water inside? The icemaker on my last fridge broke a week before the end of my extended warranty (whew!) and it would have otherwise been mucho pricey to fix.

DW: I refuse to pay over $800 for a DW. That being said, it has to be quiet, roomy and no side venting (I've read about some of the issues with steam ruining people's cabinets). KitchenAid? Whirlpool? I don't need bells and whistles here - just clean dishes.

Don't hate me because I'm not "serious" about my appliances. I have accepted my culinary limitations, but that doesn't mean my kitchen shouldn't look like I know what I'm doing.

Thanks for any input.

Deeageaux? I've seen your extremely knowledgeable posts. Care to take a crack at this?

Kitchen Aid dishwashers are great...Bosch too...Electrolux are beautiful and love the oven racks. Daughter and son and best friends have all kitchen aid appliances...double ovens etc. love them and swear by them. I have Jenn air and have had Jenn air for over 30 years...love the old ones not sure about the quality of new ones...but did buy a slide in and got rid of my built ins.. Sears really sells some very nice reasonable appliances. HHGregg fine Lines carry all high end stuff. HHGregg regular store carries other brands. We have purchased all of our appliances through Sears. Kitchen Aid for the dishwasher. Samsung for the fridge and Jenn air range. Check out consumer reports if in doubt.Sears will give you prices on all of the above mentioned models.

Thanks Jakzof3. I will definitely check out Sears. Do your kids find the Elux double oven a little ... cramped? And shallow? It's something like 4.2 cubic feet and it just doesn't look like it will hold a turkey. For the once a year I cook one.

My DH read my post and nearly exploded. "What do you mean there's no budget?!!????" Of course, there's a budget, and I guess I should have included some parameters. Around $8000 to $10,000. But flexible. For dependable stuff. Stainless. And if I could get a large capacity washer/dryer (again, no bells and whistles -- I won't use them) thrown in, that would be great.

Remember, I'm the girl who scored Italian porcelain tile for 15 cents a piece, so "bargain" is my middle name.

I just ordered a Jenn-Air Pro Style Stainless counter depth French Door fridge with water on the inside for around $2,000 with a $200 rebate. Also have Euro Style handles. JA got a good review on this in Consumer Reports.

Thanks, sskit, I will definitely check out the Jenn-Air.

My 36" range top decision has been made for me. I just came across a 48" Capital Precision 4 burner/griddle/grill display unit. I was about to pass it by because, well, duh, I need a 36" range top. But then I realized that they haven't started making my cabinets yet, and a quick call to the cabinet maker confirmed that they could reconfigure my layout to accommodate the 48" beast.

Got the $4100 unit for $1850. You see why I couldn't pass it up? Capital was never even a consideration because it was WAAAAY out of my price range.

If you check, even as far back as 2005, before Jenn-Air was purchased by Maytag, which was then purchased by Whirlpool, Jenn-Air has always been rated # 1 or close to it for "Reliability" (This ignors price) .

We bought a 48" SxS built in in 2006 and it has been trouble free except for the icemaker, which has taken a dump bout 2 months ago--worked fine for 5 years thou.
    Not really a "Biggie"
remove 3screws, unplug a connector, plug in new one, replace 3 screws and ya all set to go again.
    The Price? $153.49 + shipping.

Now, even though many many fridges use that same Whirpool-Jenn-Air icemaker, Any bets on the price of an icemaker for an SZ, and can you change it yourself????? Lotta Googling and I can't even find an icemaker for an SZ, much less a price for same.

Anyway been very happy with the JA for 5 year, temps always "Spot On" It keeps Veggies and fruits fresh for 10,000 years
Best of any fridge I've ever had etc etc blah blah blah----
Sound Familiar???? Like I have posted before, check USDA guide lines for food storage in ANY Fridge!!!

Good luck with your decision, and I'm very happy to see you
could find a "Good Deal" on a JA, as I don't like High price, Hide the price, Price enforcement by ANY Manufacturer!

Lolab good for you great peice on the 48" Range Top. Not that I am going to buy one but curious how you got it for that price? When I clicked the link it came up for $3,999.

Gary while I agree it is difficult to get JA prices online they are offering some great deals. I was able to get a free dishwasher, installation, extra warranty and cash rebate on the package I bought.

Hi sskit - man I love a bargain. I've been haunting the local PCRichard clearance outlet, and on my last trip, just as I was about to leave, I decided to take a look in the regular store at the high end cooktops, just to see what they looked like. My unit was sitting on a skid, out of the box, but with all its parts and no damage to the visible surfaces (a few scratches on the part that will be under the counter). Turns out it was the store display, never really installed/used, and it was LP, which in my area is a bit uncommon, but exactly what I need.

Right place, right time, right price -- that's why I decided to make the cabinets work around it. I'd have been lucky to find a 36" anything in a professional-type range top for that price, let alone a Capital. As I said, it wasn't even on my list because I would never have sprung for it at the list price.

    lolab,
I know how you can find some good prices on appliances. If you are interested, email me and I can send you the info.

Sears Outlet stores is also a good place to visit if there is one near you. Some is scratch/dent, other is new in the box but perhaps discontinued. I've seen a lot for %50 off. Might be a good place to see a W/D or perhaps a fridge.

Thanks, weedmeister. I am definitely going to check out that Sears outlet center!!

Still need a fridge, DW and double oven. Anyone care to comment on my tentative selections, or offer some of their own?

    Hi lolab!

I recommend going on to some appliance websites and really researching their products. Some will let you compare 4 different products at once. Sears also does this but their information doesn't seems as complete to me as other sites. I have learned so much really comparing apples to apples and reading customer reviews.

Good luck and maybe new appliances will inspire you to the next level!
