What paint color would be nice with Revere Pewter?

Hi Everyone,

I need some advice. My home is very open concept (if you look at my pictures you can see) The living and dining room is painted revere pewter with hits of yellow as an accent colour. My kitchen is builder's white. I'd like to paint the kitchen a colour that compliments the rest of the house without it feeling closed off. I get great afternoon sun in the kitchen and I would like it to feel light and airy still, BUT I want a colour that works with Revere Pewter (as you can see into a bit of the kitchen from the living/dining room). I had my house cleansed by a Reikki specialist and she said my kitchen and home in general needed color to get more energy flow. She suggested I do red in my kitchen but I just cannot picture it and I don't know if that's really my style.

Any advice would be great.

We just finished painting half of our living room in Revere Pewter (second half to come this weekend!) Our living room faces west and get tons of afternoon sun. At first I didn't really like the Revere Pewter, but I have come to terms with it and am decorating with black, beige and chrome.

I would suggest a light, creamy sage color for your kitchen walls, it will go well with the pewter and the yellow accents.

If you have yellow accents in the living and dining areas, why not paint the kitchen a pale yellow?

I've found that White Dove from Benjamin Moore works well with Pewter. Lovely together.

@Carolyn Albert Kinci Design- My reluctance with painting the kitchen a pale yellow is that the yellow accent that is currently in the l/d I would like to change out that accent and switch it up to another color ever so often. I think that's why I tried to go with a neurtal background. I could go with yellow in the kitchen but I'm just not sure how that would look with the white cabinets and brown cesarstone countertops.

@feeny- Would I be able to still have the kitchen look light and bright with a darker taupey gray?

If your cabinets are white i don't see how a darker taupey gray will change the lightness of the kitchen too significantly. But maybe if you have lots of wall in relation to cabinets then it might feel too dark. Another color, besides yellow, which looks good next to revere pewter is a light gray blue. That might keep your kitchen as light as you want it. Here's one that's a recommended color with revere pewter:
    Benjamin Moore Silver Gray
(see post about revere pewter on this design blog; scroll down to Feb 24):

    Also, Benjamin Moore recommends
Raccoon Hollow (for a taupey-gray brown) and
Dalton Blue (for a light blue)

@feeny- I think I'll consider your suggestion for the darker shade taupey-gray brown in the kitchen just to keep everything flowing and warm and I'll include some pops of colour in the vases, bowls accessories and perhaps a painting. Thanks for the great feedback. I'll let you know how it all goes.

nixx22 I painted my living, dining and kitchen in revere pewter(open concept also). basically my house consists of revere pewter, black, and white with accent colors of red, teal/turquoise, navy(attached a photo) Do you want to paint the kitchen a different color? if not, why don't you just paint it RP and just use accent colors to decorate.

Hey Sherry, How do you like the Revere Pewter? I love it. But the reikki master who came to smudge my place said it was too much grey and I needed more colour. I agree that the kitchen needs some colour. I think I've decided that I'm going to paint the kitchen a shade or two darker than revere pewter but still in a warmn greige tone and then perhaps do an accent wall of some sort. The house doesnt quite feel homey as yet. I have lots of pops of like a citron yetllow as my accent in the living and dining room. I'll try to take some better pictures and post them. The kitchen is the room that needs work now. I also need to figure out what to do on my back dining wall. I still haven't found a large mirror that i like that would look good.

I love Revere Pewter on my walls. funny thing is, it looks different in each room even though they're all connected. my living room which is the darkest because of our blinds being closed all the time is the most gray looking. the dining room which has two huge sliding glass doors has the most sunlight seems to be med to light gray and the kitchen which has a little sun light coming through seems light gray to white almost. I try to add some feng shui elements to my space but find it difficult at times to follow. I think i try to do the basics such as no mirrors facing the front door(don't wanna block the chi from flowing), adding red(accents) for luck, etc. As for my dining wall we opted for photo ledges, maybe you could do a collection of mirrors instead of one big mirror. would love to see what your space looks like.

susantootie - what color trim do you have? I am trying to figure out what color to paint my ceiling with off white trim and revere pewter walls. Thanks

You may already have painted your trim, but we LOVE Alabaster trim with Revere Pewter walls. Alabaster is a warm white -- not cream -- and the two of them harmonize amazingly.

My kitchen cupboards are all cc50, should I do revere pewter on the walls? I have dark wood hand scraped floors?

I would like to recommend Benjamin Moore CC-636, it looks like sage green, but it is part of the gray colours. Light and airy, a perfect compliment for revere pewter, and yellow! I used this color many a times in the homes we have sold and in some of our apartments. I even used it in a basement with not much light, as it is a light colour. We get lots of compliments on this beautiful, elegant color, you will not regret it!

If I paint my bathroom revere pewter with accent wall of raccoon hollow, i am wondering what to do with my vanity. The top is white, but the cabinet is oak. do you think an expresso colour on the cabinets would work?
