Maybe you need to uninstall the flash, reboot, and reinstall. That is the recommended actions by adobe. See the link below for all actions pertaining to uninstall/install and troubleshooting. HTH.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, I did that (several different times) and things are still the same. I just really don't know what else to do now! Anyone know what's going on?

I ended up taking my machine to the shop because I thought I needed more memory; turns out he said the hard drive was full and had to add from 40 to 80 (whatever that means). I mentioned the problem to him and he also suggested doing what marooma recommended, but still no luck! Any other suggestions? Help!

What error if any do you get when you try to play a YouTube video?

What browser and version are you using?

No error message, just a black screen and with no way to press play, pause, rewind, etc., as that does not appear.

In the browser at the top click HELP, the click about Internet explore.

Way at the top where it says _file_ Edit_ View_ History_ Tools_ HELP

it is Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6.0

Go to the link below tell me the version of flash player installed it's a test page an will show it automatically.

For instances on my computer the page shows version # 10.0.22.

What does yours show?

Then go to this link an check that your Java script is enabled in IE 6.

You may consider updating ie6 to ie7, IE6 is 8 some years old now.

This is what appears when I right-click on the black screen and click on 'about Adobe flash player 10'... So if it IS installed, I can't figure out for the life of me why nothing will play! Ready to pull out my hair; I know it must be something real simple (well at least I hope it is anyway), you know, for it to not be only youtube.

We posted at the same time! Yeah, that link still gives me the black screen. You can see the comments, but nothing plays. I've tried their troubleshooting tips (numerously) without any luck.

as long as you followed all those directions for uninstalling Flash player, all windows must be closed, when you uninstall it then after you need to reboot, then reinstall flash an I'm confident you did just that probably 3 times.

Is mozilla the same as firefox 3 (that's how it comes up). Will this replace IE or can either be used? I think my MIL mentioned something about this.

I also googled 'youtube shows black screen' and it appears I'm not the only one with this issue.

Yes same as firefox 3----- no it will not replace IE6 you will just have an extra browser an that's good to have for trouble shooting like now.

The only time IE6 is replaced is if you install another IE browser. Like IE7 OR IE8

So give it a shot nothing to loose and maybe things to gain.

Once you get Firefox 3 installed go to the link below an install Shockwave, that's the Adobe plugin for firefox3,

Look for shock wave on the page it's a few down,
