basement windows

Our future home will be on level ground. We are going to sit it out of the ground a little bit and put in "daylight windows" above grade and avoid window wells. The foundation contractors typically put in a window buck and then snap in a low quality window after the pour. I do not want this in my new home. I want a higher quality viynl window in this situation. Does anyone know of a good product/system for this? Does anyone know any techniques for the foundation contractor to rough an opening and isntall a new construction type window?

The window wells don't have to be ugly. Here is what our builder came up with in place of those plasticky things..

Also, you can get nice egress windows. We went with Jeld Wen. Just something to consider..having the big windows will let in so much more light and you can plant things in the window well or put flower pots there.

We did something similar to shoelvr, using regular casement windows tall and wide enough to allow legal egress from the guest bedroom, and to let in the southern sun to the family room. Our window well wall was of large rocks, since it was open at each end (one end went to the walkout patio, the other to some steps up to the back yard), and also matched our other retaining walls.
