Miele KM 5676 36' Electric Cooktop

I am considering replacing my Whirlpool 36" smoothtop with the Miele KM5676 cooktop. Does anyone have any experience with this model or a comparable Miele cooktop? Are you pleased with your selection? Anything you don't like?

We're getting the Miele KM5676 too. Also a Miele dishwasher, washer, & dryer.

We've had Miele vaccuums for 14 plus years. Excellent quality & outstanding customer service.

Thanks for starting this thread. Looking forward to hearing more opinions.

Wishing you the best of luck with your new cooktop!

I purchased a Miele dishwasher about 5 months ago and am very pleased with it. I considered the Miele washer and dryer but wanted a larger capacity.

I found a brand new Miele cooktop on Craigslist last night. It seems it was purchased for a remodel that either didn't happen or they changed their mind. I've already contacted the seller and will be meeting him today. My only hesitation is the existing cutout dimensions in my granite countertop. According to the installation instructions for my existing cooktop and Miele's cooktop, the width is 1/2" (35" vs 35 1/2") narrower for the Miele. I can't get to the actual cutout to measure without removing the existing cooktop. I'm not sure how wide the lip is on the Miele to know whether this is a problem or not. My husband can modify the base cabinet to ensure adequate support but I want to make sure the lip covers the entire cutout.

We installed the Miele cooktop yesterday and I've been cooking away. I am really pleased with the unit. My first learning curve was operating the controls. I was pressing down to operate and was really surprised at how hard I had to push and it didn't always work. I was planning to call Miele tomorrow to see if there was a way to modify the touch control settings. After playing with it for awhile, I realized that you don't 'press' at all. You simply place your finger over the control(s) to operate. Very simple once I figured it out.

    Cindla --

Thank you for writing about your new experience with the Miele KM 5676 36" electric cooktop; it sounds great. And thanks for your helpful tips about the control panel.

You know the middle burner in the back row, the one with the rectangular shape -- Do you have the option of just using it as the "circle" instead of always turning on the "rectangle" part? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Congratulations on your new Miele cooktop! We're looking forward to a positive experience too.

I just tested it and yes, you can use the 'circle' without activating the larger 'rectangle'.

I had this cooktop install and of 2007 and love it. My only complaint is I have about 5 small scratchs which have appeared over time. I only use stainless (the cookware requirements are abit annoying to only use SS), but somehow I still manage to scratch it. As for performance it really is great!
