columns help: photoshop?

I am wondering if someone can help me visualize if I use round columns for the entryway. The original plan calls for square column and it looks like a nursing home than a house. Is there something else I could do to make the house have a better look. I am also looking for suggestions for color. Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,

I'd suggest an arched entrance, it will match with the arched window (left)
As for the colors... earth colors with a dark accent in the arch
    Something like this

    Hope this helps

Patricia, thank you so much for the suggestion. Is there a way you can do round columns? The original plan calls for something like you have drawn but I am wondering what it looks like with white round columns.

    Hi msh2000

    You are welcome!
Check this new image. Not sure if this is the type of columns you wish. I used almost plain white columns and a straight top

Patricia, last favor. Could you please draw the arch that you did on the round columns and see what it looks like. Am sorry but I do not know how to do this things.

If I could please hijack for this one post... Patricia, would you please be willing to do the same for my front (the round columns and leave the arch) as well as put the round columns where I have the square ones on the side? I've really been wondering how that would look on my home and just can't quite get it to work in my program.

Thanks for your help! And thank you, msh2000, for letting me butt in for a moment.

I really like the round columns with the arch - it is just the right touch. May I be so nosy as to ask what roof that is? I would love a red roof but haven't found anything that is cost effective (red metal is too much). I do not mean to hijack the post either - I am just loving your red roof and would love to know the name of it. Thanks in advance. Take care! --Colleen

Probably they are ceramic tiles, they look really nice. However, they are not indicated for all the regions / climates / type of roofs

Msh2000, we are building a similar home in Selma, TX. We are using columns. If you dont mind me asking what is your budget on this house,w/out land? We arent breaking ground till summer of 08, and have yet to start budgeting. Also are you owner building?

Coleen, my roof is certainteed independence line called cottage red. I am now doubting my choice of red roof. My choice if I could have afforded it would have been tile like roof made of metal but it was too expensive. I am doubting the red color because I am having a hard time choosing the color of the exterior of our house. I thought I knew what I wanted but now that the house is up, it is hard to make the choice for the color of the exterior and the choices are limited with red roof.

Breaking ground, with medium to high end finishing, the house alone is $425K. This is with ICF, geothermal and radiant heat. This is also owner builder. Right now, I am already 30K over the above budget with change orders and trucking more soil. You might get better deal with slumping building industry at this time.

msh2000, Our budget isnt nearly that high but our house is probably a lot smaller too. We are at about 1900 sq/ft in living space (more or less) but are achieving the same look of the exterior. We are also going with stick framing (but will try for sips). We are going to use mextile tile roofing. It is about $100 for 10x10 ft of roof, here in San Antonio. However,we are close enough to the border, that we are going to purchase ours in Matamoros at about $15-$20 per 10x10ft. Huge savings.

Msh2000 - thank you for letting me know about the roof. I would like a yellow/tan exterior with a red roof and huntert green trim....but then, I have strange tastes LOL. If you stick to a light tan or khaki exterior color choice, that would look really nice. Good luck and thank you again. --Colleennc
