Lighting above jacuzzi

I was reading the recent posts about lighting codes for a jacuzzi area and am still undecided. Has anyone ever had the lighting installed in the home they are already living in and lived to regret it? I'm considering a pair of wall sconses and a ceiling fixture (practically a flush mount) to match what I've already done on the vanity wall. Are there any reasons to be concerned other than the old lightbulb change and falling in the tub issue? I'm primarily concerned about a possible home inspection during resale. I'd appreciate any opinions on this. The lights are standard restoration hardware style uplight sconses and the flush mount has exposed bulbs with a curved frosted glass covering. The existing flush mount is the awful looking "safe style" covered by plastic and there aren't any wall lights.

We put a small chandelier over our whirlpool tub. I don't intend to change lightbulbs while the tub is full, and if the thing were to fall out of the ceiling, it certainly wouldn't be connected to the wires by the time it landed, so I see minimal actual safety risk. And it's on a GFCI circuit.

If it came up on a home inspection during resale, the buyer is the one that chooses whether or not to ask you to change it. If they did, you'd just have to unscrew the thing, disconnect the wires, and cap off the junction box. I doubt they'd prefer that to a light fixture, but if they did, it's simple to do.

Boy, this topic can land you in some hot water...been there, done that :o Ditto to what weedyacres said. We did it too and I LOVE it. I can't see any way for this light fixture to be a problem. Resell isn't an issued for us. One person tried to tell me that it will corrode from the moisture. I wonder why none of my other light fixtures in the bathroom ever corroded.

Good point, Weedy. I guess it wouldn't be too hard to eliminate if necessary and it would be a pretty strange buyer who wouldn't prefer the lights. I was just remembering the long list that my home inspector came up with when I bought this house (and I was told it was a short list!)

I think I'm going to go ahead and order the sconses today. I hesitated since it was an online purchase that I wouldn't be able to return. I already bought the ceiling light at Expo's 15% off lighting sale after Thanksgiving last week. The installation won't happen until I find a piece of art for between the sconses. It's an 8 ft. wall across from my shower that used to be mirrored and is looking kind of blank right now (although it's way better than the mirror!) My alternate plan was to mount some candleholders.

Monica, you're jacuzzi area looks beautiful! I knew that I'd love those tiles... and the way the ceiling color ties it all together with the crystal fixture, I'd call it beachy elegance!
