I wouldn't.....the discoloration does no harm....but if you rough up the surface with even a mild abrasive like Bar Keeper's Friend, you will diminish the non stick properties of your pan.

In my experience, non-stick pans that are used regularly have a limited life. Once they start losing their non-stick properties, its just a matter of time before they become pretty annoying to use. Skillets are my most-used non-stick items. With my usage, I find they last 1-2 years before becoming troublesome. None of these surfaces can be refurbished. Once they lose their non-stick properties to the point of annoyance, I replace them.

Pardon my ignorance, but regarding the discoloration and lifetime of a non-stick piece; that really sucks! I mean, for All-Clad, you'd think they would hold up better-- why do they even make non-stick?

My "lifetime" product experience limited to ScanPans of which I have several. They're expensive but only OK in use and their non-stick coating doesn't last any longer than anyone else's. They have honored their warranty and I keep sending them in and they keep replacing them. However, just the shipping costs about 20.00 each time I send one in and then I have to wait a couple of weeks.

The other thing I don't like about any of the non-sticks is their rapid deterioration if anything above medium heat is used. They're really good if you're willing to limit your cooking style that way but even one "accident" with too-high heat can petty much trash them.

Yup. Tell tale. The metal of the pan will usually withstand it, but the coating won't.
