Induction question

Will I be happy with the Thermador 36" induction cooktop, or should I be looking elsewhere? I may have a line on one locally real cheap, but have read about recalls on their cooktops. Have read nothing but good things about Miele. How about Electrolux? Between the 3, which should I be leaning towards.

Thanks in advance,

erick

IIRC, the Thermador issue was not a big deal, and only on a hybrid model (maybe?).

Miele has individual hob timers, if that is important to you.

Electrolux is rated highly by Consumer Reports (for the regular electric ones too) if that matters to you.

The Miele has the timers on each element. I really like to use them for boiling and cooking keeps me on track and avoids the boil overs and over done.

I'm considering the same ones, but I've been unable to determine whether the Thermador induction cooktop can be placed over a single wall oven. Have you checked into that?

trig - I haven't looked into that. With my kitchen layout, it isn't an issue.

As far as the individual timers like on the Miele. I think that would be nice, but isn't 100% necessary in my mind. (Hope that doesn't come back to haunt me).

I know about the CR reports for the Electrolux, but don't always put a lot of stock in those. Anyone with real world experience with Electrolux.

Thanks so far and keep the suggestions coming.

Timers on each element? I have them and I like them to keep me on track. It is like any new feature on anything some people like/use them and some do not.

I have had my 30 inch Thermador Induction cooktop for 4 months now and love it! I previously had a standard GE electric cooktop with built-in downdraft and the Thermador Induction is such an improvement over that! Cooks fast, a breeze to cleanup and beautiful to look at. The popup vent system works great but if I had to do that part over again I would go with the remote blower instead of the integral one in the cabinet below the cooktop because it gets pretty noisy on high. I couldn't be more pleased though with the performance of the Thermador.

lmalm53 - Is the drawer under your cooktop active, or just a blank front (I'm assuming a blank since no hardware).

That is just a blank panel immediately under the cooktop but I do have a full opening cabinet underneath that contains the integral blower unit for the pop up vent system.

There was another post around first of this year by a Thermador Induction owner who did manage to put a storage drawer immediately under his cooktop for storing utensils. There is a heat shield that comes with the cooktop and he made some kind of adjustment so that the cooktop would still be adequately cooled even with the drawer below it.

I will see if I have it in my clippings but I bet the original post has already dropped off the list. Maybe someone else will recall the post. I do believe you can have a drawer under the cooktop.

Found the post I was talking about. Scroll down halfway thru the posts and you will find a nice informational post with pics on how he installed a drawer right under the Thermador Induction cooktop.

Here is a link that might be useful: Thermador Induction Cooktop post with storage drawer beneath cooktop

Wow.....thank you so much.....that is so helpful. Now the waiting game.....cabinets are about 4 to 5 weeks out.

Thanks again Lmalm53, I really appreciate it.
