Need help with wall colour @ drapery

Hello, just moved into our new house and our main living area consists of the kitchen, dining and lounge room in open plan. The room is straight rectangular. I won't my accent colour to be purple (to match up with the canvas I purchased in Bali). My idea was to have purple, black, white and silver colour scheme, however, am finding it a bit lifeless. The three windows at the back of the room will soon look out to a pool which is coloured deep blue. Please help. The walls are all white. It feels so cold in here although we lived in a very hot climate. I have a large black leather lounge suit and grey tiled floor. Some choice on mat design would be great too!

Hello,

The easy way to do it would be to add accessories. I think this is exaclty what is missing from your home. If you like silver, black and purple, try also some turquise (light blue) with it. Add a lot of cushions and some wall paintings with the same colors. Maybe I would change the black carpet with a silver toned one.
I would put a carpet, under the dining table. Are you keeping the coffee table? If not think of a crystal top with stainless steel frame.
You can paint the walls the same color with your dining chairs - or maybe a couple of tones lighter - and use linen drapes of the same color. I like the color of the wall and the drapes to be the same color. It is more elegant to me.
You can also use a couple of big plants.

I agree the dining chairs could become an accent color and inspiration for the walls and window treatment. Looks like your decor is quite neutral so it might be a good direction to continue perhaps with an area rug in the dining area.

I would introduce some warmer colors. I like Dytecture's camel colored chairs depicted - you need something warm. Silver/grey with black and white and lavender - it's all so cold. Red and orange don't work with violet otherwise I'd suggest those. Think warm greens, camels, and neutrals. You have to warm it up :)

Thanks heaps for your comments. This web site it soooo cool. I live in Exmouth Western Australia which is so isolated and I am 1300km from the nearest city, so it's really hard for me to get some professional advice. I so love the photo that had been modified. Is that something I could play around with. The dining chairs are not going to stay. I was going to replace the table with a silver legs and glass top rectangular table and was going to put ikea see through chairs around it. So the current chairs are light brown and I really don't think light brown goes with purple. How about a darker shade of grey on the walls?

You seem to like cool colours, however want it to be a bit warmer. I know someone with a similar scheme (dark furniture) and they picked up the grey from their tile floor, and did a neutral grey tone on the walls. It was still a cool type colour, but a lot warmer than the plain white walls they had. I think grey also looks nice with purple (just make sure to try some swatches), and also silver. I think it would make your black furniture blend in with the walls a bit, and tie it all together. If you're looking out to a blue background (pool) some greys almost have a blue tone to them .. maybe get some swatches from paint store, and try them with your tile, furniture, and with some purple accessories.

You could try just a hint of lilac in the wall color... that way you would stick with your theme and not get into the dreary territory with gray...
