sigh...will it end?

We are really hoping to move in this weekend but there's sooo much left. The painter's, in our opinion, did a poor job the first time through and were supposed to be there monday and today to touch up. Everyone keeps saying this is "normal" but if this is normal, I'm in the wrong profession. I think we placed a whole roll of painters tape on the areas that needed fixed. Well, I went by today, so did my father-in-law, and my husband and not once were they there working today. Our builder's son had surgery today so we didn't call him today because we didn't want to bother him but you better believe he will be hearing from us tomorrow. Carpet is supposed to go in Thursday and Friday so we were really wanting this stuff fixed before then. One of the things that concerns me the most is that the walls and ceilings of most of the rooms - large living room area, kitchen, garage, one hallway, and one bedroom - look really streaky to me in natural light. I'm not sure that anything short of painting an entire new coat on all of them will solve the problem.

Sigh, just needed to vent and would love to hear from the rest of you going through these things...misery loves company ;-)

I only wish our build was as far along as that, Eyegirlie. We're still waiting for bids from the GCs. The bright side is you'll be in by the holidays for sure! Sorry to hear your paint job wasn't what you hoped. Did your plans specify a particular brand of paint? Maybe have them repaint with a different brand? As frustrating as it is now, you're in the home stretch. You'll be moved in before you know it.

    Good luck!

I also wish we were as far along as you are Eyegirlie! Originally, we were supposed to close on Monday, but that has been pushed back until the day before Thanksgiving. However, I've been waiting to see an update from you. I really like your home because we share a lot of similar features. :)

We meet with our GC tomorrow regarding some changes in the windows that he decided to do without our knowledge and wasn't going to mention it until I discovered them myself. He now knows how meticulous (picky) I am. ;)

Anyway, congratulations on your new home!

book, thanks for the encouragement. It is supposed to be sherwin williams paint, but I did some research and what I describe as streaky seems to be called flashing, and occurs when a primer wasn't used. The painter says he used a primer...but my husband and I met with him last night and they are basically repainting most of our house. We'll see how it turns out. We've been promised that they'll do whatever it takes to make it right, I just wish it was was done right the first time. The painter says he used a primer but agreed we did not get his best work and that he rushed. I told him I wanted him to take his time and get it done right.
Pcandlyte, I just looked at your blog and it looks like your house is really moving along! I love the floor plan! Hopefully you will be moved in by Thanksgiving for the holiday! Love the verses on your blog - I actually wrote a Bible verse in each of the 4 main corners of our home before the drywall went up. I hate to hear about your builder changing things without asking; that would not fly with me either!

Now, time to stop putting off packing...
