A nice tray with some bar equipment would be nice. I'd put the plant in a jazzy pot on the floor. A lamp of some sort, taller in scale but not too wide. Find a great piece of art to hang over it. Nice piece.

Hi, I love your dining room! I think you should find a large mirror, hand it vertically with two sconces on either side to anchor it. This will make a statement! You don't necessarily have to buy the same material/wood, do it in a complementing textile... that you wish to incorporate into the space, such as an iron or whitewashed wood or stone .... but keep it cohesive with other elements within the space.

What kind of plant?

On top of the sideboard, a small plant choice to add would be ( a small peace lily, sm. palm plant, a small chinese evergreen, or a small goden pothos). Check out your local Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart or other garden center store to see what they have.

I agree about a tray on the sideboard - maybe with some wine or wiskey glasses. Leave the rest bare. But most importantly take down the small things you have on the walls now. Look for a painting the width of your sideboard and hang it over the sideboard, it looks like you need a treatment for yor glass door, and also a rug. For the walls, you might want to pick up a color from your painting. There are some colors in the gold family that really look good with teak. Then find some Fiesta Ware dishes in an accent color.

I think you'll be happier with a painting no larger than 75% of your sideboard's width. Keep the scal of whatever you do grand and the amount small. Avoid lots of little "dust catcher" stuff.

I must say, though, I'm not a fan of bar equipment as decor. I find it too masculine. Any other thoughts?

Bar equipment can be placed behind the doors of the sideboard.

Just keep it simple, but dramatic. I suggest a round mirror with substantial size. The lines of the furniture are clean so see the Clarendon mirror by Crate & Barrel. Or for more inspiration, see the Baker Furniture website. Now that line has very very expensive pieces, see the Constellation and the Sunburst and Jewel Octagon mirrors, but look for a copy of that look. Remove the tall plant. Instead a low bowl, oblong or rounded in a handmade ceramic, or in a deep bronze color. And possibly a lamp, nothing ornate, modern and simple in style, stone base of some kind, could be handmade pottery, or dark bronze but clean, slender, cylindrical or rectangular in shape just not skinny sitting over to the left on the buffet, and something about 22" h or so, off white silk or linen and simple shade, nice to have something glowing off to the side on the buffet during a party, low wattage bulb, not glaring. Never hang anything too high. Remove the candleholder, it belongs on a much smaller wall. You don't need a lot, just select a piece at a time....have fun with accessories.
