unfeathering a nest.... long....

I'm on day 2 of our move; leaving Montreal and preparing to live in Calgary.

Once our condo was being packed yesterday, it already did not seem like home anymore, although it's not sold yet, so we are leaving it partly staged and I can still stay here when I visit. Our kids and family are in Montreal so I'll definitely will want to visit at least every 6 weeks.

We have a new grandchild arriving in July.

It's unreal how fast a decor can be dismantled, how fast a nest can be unfeathered, I'm looking forward to a freshly painted place in Calgary and

installing our stuff there.

We must have done this at least 15 times in our 38 years of married life,

I'm over it . I told DH the final move we make should be our return to Montreal in a few years.

Unless he would be offered a job in New York city, London or Paris, I am not open to relocating anywhere else. Plus we're turning 60 now so what are the odds of relocating to those 3 places, not high, lol.....

so this is just my news for now, the condo we bought in Calgary has wood floors and wood kitchen, wood blinds; the walls and ceilings were tan colored, so basically the whole place was the color of honey wood, I'm doing grey doors and woodwork, and white walls so hopefully all the wood will look less "woodsy",

kitchen and bathrooms will be gray with white trim, I'll post pictures if it turns out nice. I'll only see everything on march 11, it's being done while I am away.

so basically my point is that all the effort and time we put into a decor can be anihilated in no time, I was reflecting on this yesterday as it was happening right under my eyes..... it's still worth doing though.

Is this move for your husband's job? It would be hard for me to move away from children and grandchildren.

I would love to move somewhere new, but I would have to take my friends and family with me!

I could pack up my house in a few days if it weren;t for the basement and garage.

I know exactly what you are saying.

When DH and I sold our "starter home" it took me years to have the style and decor evolve to what it was the day we listed it. I was so proud to show it, as every realtor that came through the door told me what a beautifully decorated home I had. I had actually had a few approach me to ask if I was interested in "staging" for their clients. My house wasn't staged, it was cleaned up with toys put away, but not staged.

Anyhow when packing up to move, it took just a few short days to pack up what took me 5 years to decorate. It was such a bittersweet feeling.

I think I know what you're saying, too. I just wanted to wish you luck with your move! I can't wait to see pics of your new place. Will you be keeping all of your furniture and things or don't you know yet?

So true, which is why it takes me a couple of years in a new space to get the urge to nest (decorate). I too have moved too much but at least now I'm close to family. Good for you already feathering your new nest!

Your spaces always look nice, Mona, and so will the next one.

While planning to move I found 3 birds' nests around our last place, and I tried to imagine what they portended. One was a big robin's next with a huge hole, one was a tiny, perfect thing that would be for a finch-size bird. We considered all options, and looked at homes that would be comparable to both of these, but wisely (I hope!) ended up with something in between.

We've been living in furnished rentals for a year now and all our feathers are in storage. I think they'll be pretty stinky by the time we unload them this summer into the next house, and even though I got rid of lots of stuff I still have way more than will fit.

thanks everyone for your thoughts and well wishes; the truck is loaded and on it's way west. I feel ready to start the feathering next week when I am reunited with the truck and it's contents.

We purchased a few new pieces of furniture for the place in Calgary,
so I'll be combining the new and the old .
Leaving this condo staged sparsely feels a little odd, it seems so big now.
