Any problems with Boyles?

We are looking to buy a Hancock & Moore leather sofa, chair and ottoman. Boyles are considerably less expensive than our local furniture store.

We have, however, never bought from them and want to know if anyone who has bought from them has had any problem? We would be shipping to Arizona. Condition of furniture on arrival and delivery problems are a concern. Has anyone who has shipped with them had any problem?

Thanks,

Kate

Boyles is the class act in NC. The have their own fleet of delivery trucks so you are not subject to third parties. If you have any problems, they will correct them.

I have received several deliveres from Boyles. I did have a problem with my most recent one and so far so good. I offered to send pictures of the damage, and the lady said no need! Very nice, willing to send somone out to fix it. You would be surprise how many deliveries they make to your area. I know in Chicago, they say they are hear 4 times a week.

Two years ago, I ordered four pieces of furniture and two lamps from Boyles. All the furniture arrived in perfect condition. There was a tiny factory-related flaw in one lamp, but Boyles solved the problem quickly. As John said, Boyles is the class act in NC.

I think Boyles is really good. My experience buying from them is way better than buying from local furniture store in Seattle where they didn't seem to want to talk to you again after you made the purchase. The salesperson is very knowledgeable and they are trained well. The price is good. Their delivery service is very good, the best we've ever had. They put red carpet in front of our house and handled the furniture very carefully. Unfortunately I had furniture that was not made according to order, and they had to take it back. I watched them wrapped my loveseat - it was done very professionally. The only thing I have to complain is my experience with customer service was not as good as I expected. There supposed to be communication to me that didn't happen, and that costs me almost 3 month delay in getting my loveseat fixed. I was told the person who supposed to handle it got moved to Drexel. I do think that's just an excuse for not having the process handled effectively.

I agree that their delivery is top notch but they lack follow through with their customer service. I had to refuse a Henredon bed, just this week. Several calls later no one at Boyles seems to know what is going on. The salesperson will not return my calls. There has been no return communication from customer service as promised. I live near the store so I will probably have to go in person to see what the status is.

I work for Boyles in Pineville (Charlotte) and thought I'd Google "Boyles" to see what the word on the streets is, so to speak. Am glad to see that our reputation stays strong, even on the web. Thanks so much! I feel I work for a great company and glad it shows through to our customers.

Boyles got nabbed by NJ in a lawsuit and therefore charges NJ sales tax on all their sales to NJ. That benefit is gone...too bad, the playing field has tightened in NJ with shopping out of state.

In response to the previous post, with very few exceptions, Boyles now charges sales tax in all states it delivers to. I understand the benefit of this is that Boyles can now drive trucks that say "Boyles" on the side with no restrictions. The advertising must outweigh the no tax benefit. Also, customers that didn't file state taxes for purchases made out of state that weren't initially taxed no longer have to worry about the IRS penalizing them.. they are charged tax at purchase time now.

The IRS has nothing to do with collecting state sales tax.

Sales tax is determined by WHERE the customer takes delivery of the goods. Its a very gray area. Typically the determining factor (varies by state) is whether a store has a 'presence' in another state, or delivers into that state using its own vehicles.

Of course, to make this all the more confusing, laws do vary by state as to what determines a 'presence'. Advertising can successfully be argued to be that presence when done outside the stores home state.

Remember too, that in no state are you buying tax-free, unless that state does not collect sales tax (i.e., DE, NH, etc). Its just the store does not collect the tax, you are still liable for it as a 'use' tax and expected to declare it on your state income tax. If you aspire to political office or want to work for the Justice Department, etc...you would be well advised to pay it.

Boyles Distinctive Furniture has been in business since 1949. To see how they compare with their competition, go to the Better Business Bureau's website. Boyles has several stores in North and South Carolina. Your shopping experience at the Jamestown/High Point Store begins when you contact a competent sales person/designer. If you do not have a referral for one, contact a store manager at 336-812-2200 and ask them to put you in touch with someone who is knowledgeable about the products, capable of handling your layouts, and willing to see the project through from the beginning to the delivery. Should any problems arise, you want a sales person who is going to return your phone calls and work with Boyles' customer service department to get your problem resolved quickly and to your satisfaction. In addition to manufacturer warranties already in place, Boyles has a 1 year warranty as well for manufacturer defects. Classic Moving and Storage is Boyles' own delivery service. They are famous for their "white glove delivery." The drivers are paid a bonus for not breaking your furniture. They are clean, courteous and competent. Another thing that sets Boyles apart from the competition is the acceptance of major credit cards for payment. This is a great way to rack up bonus points or air miles. Boyles has taken part in many humanitarian causes including the building of a Habitat for Humanity home, helping Hurricane Katrina victims by providing furniture for needy families, working through the DIY Network and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and many other charitable causes to lift the spirits of others. I have worked for Boyles Furniture since 2000 and everything I am saying about Boyles is factual. We are a company with integrity. We care about you and your project. Please contact us for the best possible buying experience. Thank you, Linda Cecil, IDS Associate, Sales/Design
