if you google Empire Today you will literally hundreds of consumer complaints. Haven't heard anything good yet. Most people complain of high pressure, total price without telling you a breakdown, poor follow thru etc etc. They do buy Mohawk and Shaw flooring but the choice is limited and they employ a one step close if you get the idea. Its not the let me show you nice flooring type guys and let you think about it for a while.

the posters I've seen dealing with Empire say they won't break down even the labor portion from the material part.

They come tomorrow for an estimate. I have since read reviews and it's not looking real good for either of them. We have had 3 locals come so far. The first estimate sounded lower then i would have expected so it will be interesting to see what the next ones come in at.

The good thing is that we dont have to rush into anything and if we dont like what we see/hear, we can continue to check people out.

Luna and Empire were both here. I wasnt sure what to expect. BUT.. when Luna came we told them we were looking to hardwood the whole 1st floor (about 1200SF) and we are also changing out all the trim (baseboards/casings etc) and they said they didnt do any of that and it would be more cost efficient if we went with a local company.

Empire said the same thing(which I was expecting after hearing from Luna)

I admit I was sure I would be listening to a big pitch but it didnt happen. Maybe the guy from Empire just figured he had made a sale (from the client he was with before he came to us) so he didnt really need to waste anyones time.

We have gotten 3 locals so far and have 2 more coming tomorrow and a couple next week so we are still trying to find who we feel comfortable with.

Your doing the right thing by interviewing several companies.

Now, if you could only interview the actual subcontractor they are going to choose to trust your investment to. After all, your flooring is only going to be as good as the installer. You may not click with the installer, like you did the salesman.

Thanks floorguy. Out of the 4 we have had come out 2 of them have been the "salesguy". The other 2 do their own work and I am calling references tomorrow. Oddly enough, hubby and I havent really cared for the "salesguys" as much.

I will let you know how it goes with whomever we choose. Unforunately we probably wont be getting anything started for a couple weeks. I am sooo ready to get rid of this oak trim (builder grade CRAP).

Good luck with your search for quality work. FYI, in our area some of the flooring companies like to point out that their wood installers are their employees and the carpet installers are sub contractors. Something you might want to ask.
Also, I was looking at some model homes this weekend for some kitchen ideas and when I glanced at the 3" plank wood flooring I noticed something that really bothers me....several of the end joints were as close as 1/4" to the next row. These were in the main entrance to the house and repeated again in other areas. This might not bother some people, but these should be 4 to 6" apart for a better appearance.

Just a thought.

rude rude...will not continue even though good price..
and believe they are the type of company that will not stand by their word if there is a problem or issue..

Was sold on a 5 star carpet then they installed a 3 star carpet try to get ahold of sales rep Angela jeager which never got back to me. Refund only valid in 3 day or not honored my deposit was 1,500 lost . Got nowhere on the phone to be transferred to cancellation when no one picks up. Felt like a victim

Wrong carpet

Had Empire Luna do wood flooring dinning rm, carpet liv rm, liv rm got a rip in it by accident we called luna for repair they sent a guy with a ruler no repair 5 days later we call whats going on 10 days now just getting the run around no one has called us at all. Not happy.

I had a terrible experience with this company. inhad hardwood on my stairs and on the hallway, the 5 hours it took them to do the job my door was left wide open on the hottest day. When I came home my smoke detectors were still going off. I also ordered carpet for the bedrooms too many issues. First they were to come early am and did not get to my home until 3pm then they had the wrong color carpet when I questioned when they could bring the correct carpet it was going to be a week later. What a cluster mess, my bedroom door would not close and they charge $75.00 to shave the door down. This nickel dime out fit is disastrous. They are pushy from the get go and very difficult to get them to return and fix mistakes or problems. They did not even offer the specials they were running. Take my advice and stay away From Luna and Empire they are the same company due to merge. They suck I would have cancelled if I was not too far in on the deal

Don’t do it! I recently had floors installed by Luna. The salesman was great, until there was a problem. He answered my first call then ignored the rest. I requested a specific color tile. They bought a different color and told me I had to pay to take it up since the job was half way done when I realized it was wrong (both options were shades of gray). They said I had another option which was to get a discount. I chose the discount but haven’t heard from the company. It’s been two weeks. I’m stuck with floors I’m don’t like and with no compensation from the company. I’m sure there are better companies with better customer service you can choose from.
