We are redoing our kitchen, and have decided to go with a wood floor for the country kitchen in our brownstone. We were all set to go with bamboo, when we told our architect and he got a bit grumpy, suggesting oak or coconut shell.

I don't like oak all that much - and have never heard of coconut for flooring.

A Google search turns up coconut wood floors, but not coconut shell.

Anyway - does anyone here have any opinions on this? How is coconut likely to compare with other materials in terms of cost?
