Hi Joy, I love the traditional features of your new home...the ample crown molding, hardwood floors and classic wainscoting. I personally do not find the faux fireplace a good fit for your room. It obscures the wainscoting, and comes across as a disjointed black box.

Hi Joy,

I'm assuming you're not open installing a real fireplace, or perhaps don't feel you need one? If thats the case then I'd say the best way to integrate what you have would be to remove the metal firebox portion from the black wooden surround, then create a new surround that would tie into the existing wainscotting you have. So all the moldings are the same and align etc. I'd also relocate or add another outlet behind the unit so it can be installed flush to the wall.

Part of the problem with tying in what you have currently is both the color and the fact that the moldings are misaligned, but not so much that it doesn't look like a mistake.

Steve

I'd forget about it. More trouble that it is worth to you. Sell it on Craigslist, save the money toward having a real FP installed in the future. Lovely home deserves the real thing!

Thank you so much...you are all so kind. Think we're moving it to a bedroom. Just don't know what to replace it with in the meantime. Our piano needs to stay where it is (acoustically and cosmetically).

Hi Joy, I wouldn't replace it with anything. You have enough furniture already but a large print/artwork would be nice on that wall. Move the small print (to the right of the mirror) and hang it above the one that's on the left. Will give some height to the wall.
