Problem with New Microfiber Sofa, need advice

This spring I purchased a new sectional and matching chair. Its not high end but I really wanted something for the next few years until my kids are a little older. The color was described as leaf green and in the showroom it looked greenish. In my house it looks like a brownish gray most of the time. When I went back to compare colors, it is off from the fabric in the showroom but not enough that you would call it a different color although enough that I could not use their cushions to replace one of mine, it would be noticeable to at least 30% of the people who came into my house

Its microfiber but the difference is their microfiber seems to have a little light texture to it, mine seems more suedey. Mine seems to show seat marks more than the one in she showroom. Also from day one mine would show small spots that need to be cleaned. Meanwhile their sofa that has been in a showroom for almost Two years is pristine. We do not allow food or drink or markers or shoes in this room so not sure where these spots come from! Yet my sofa has tons of small spots that were not there when it was delivered.

From day 1 I thought the fabric on the cushions looked a little loose and messy. I even noted it on the delivery receipt but when I happened to see the furniture at another showroom recently it also had folds so I let it go. However earlier this week I needed to go back to the store so as an experiment I brought the cushion with me. I noted the slight color variation (of course I like their color better) and the texture variation. What was most troubling was when I placed my cushion on their sleeper sofa, their cushion supported you, with mine you could feel the springs of the sleeper sofa (my sofa is not a sleeper). Also because theirs is stuffed properly, the cording is straight on the cushion, on mine the cording is not straight because of the stuffing. While this all seems nitpicky this all affects the look and comfort of the sofa.

Bottom line, the color is half a shade off (dye lot variation?)

The microfiber texture is off and mine stains easily (I have not tried to clean the spots, they may come out easily)

My cushions are much softer and not supportive enough and look messier

The salesman seemed nice and kept my cushion to show the rep who comes next week

What should I do and what should I be asking for

Thanks

It sounds like you didn't get what you ordered. If you can unzip your cushions you should do that and see what they are stuffed with, how much, etc., then go to the store and ask the salesman to do the same with a cushion from the floor sample, if there is a difference, you should ask them to take back the furniture they delivered to you and buy your furniture elsewhere or at least a different vendor.

    Thanks

Does it matter that is been a couple of months?

I knew this was not Baker furniture but I was surprised at the difference between my cushions and theirs.

I like the furniture and it really meets my needs, I just would prefer to get what I ordered. I do not think a vendor would make a difference, this is a lower end manufacturer a little above Ashley's main line (they have a large commercial/hospitality business it seems fromt heir website) and most of the vendors seem a little bit of the fake sale vaiety. I was actually somewhat surprised at how seriously the salesperson took my complaint. Although he did try to claim different suppliers for the cushions.

His cushions are defintely much firmer and supportive than mine, there is no question that I will insist on a replacement. I also really wonder why my fabric is staining so easily since its microfiber? Their is definitley different than mine in color (shade variation) but also a tad in texture but agian would not notice unless I actually brought the cushion in

I have a microfiber sofa that I purchased at Marshall Field's about 4.5 yrs ago. At the time, the store had a display of the sofa in a nice green color, which we considered. The SA told us (thankfully) that the fabric would not look green in our own home, but brown -- apparently it was a trick of the store lighting. Apparently several people had returned their sofas for just that reason. Perhaps you're seeing the same thing?

Thanks for pointing this out, I think that is partly true except that I brought an actual cushion back to the store and its a noticeably different shade than the store sample. I put the cushion on their sofa. Its almost the same color and someone who is not into details would say its the same but its off enough that I could not use one of their cushions to replace my cushion if i needed to. Most people would notice if I did that. I have noticed that at certain times of the day it is a little closer to green than others although no one would actually call it green. Maybe if i got flourecent lights like in the store

Hs your microfiber held up well? Stayed clean

i'm going to be buying a new couch soon, and have noticed this trend in microfiber. i personally dont like it, would rather have fabric that is scotchguarded. i did own a white sectional, Weiman, for 6 yrs and the color stayed true, plus stains were not a problem.
link to my choice, in a cream or off white color.

I bought a Precedent Microfiber sofa from Marshall Field's about 2 years ago. My sister has a Precedent sofa that I love and the fact that it's a divison of Sherrill I figured I could not go wrong.

The sofa arrived on a Thursday, I had a party on Sunday. After the party the sofa felt like it was a few years old vs. a few days. It was very cushy. Not what I expected. Then I noticed it started to eat things; my hair, lint, you name it. I figured since it was my 3rd sofa I was stuck with it.
About 8 months later I started looking at rugs and club chairs. I mentioned to my new sales associate that my sofa was eating things. She asked me to bring in a cushion, she spoke to her manager and they sent a technican to my house. He said it looked like I got a "bad" batch of furniture and they could replace the cushion. I said NO because then the cushion fabric would be different from the back. They offered me a replace or a refund. I opted for the refund.
This time I bought bought velvet. I am not suprised that the store is being attentive, I am sure they have dealt with this before. I guess microfiber can be hit or miss.
    Good luck.

what does eat things mean? Mine seems to attract crumbs and other bits of dirt on the cushion so it needs to be wiped down frequently, is this what you mean? Is velvet stainproof? I have tons of kids so needs something that can hold up. My sofa is similar to yours except its grenish brown ad has box cushions and looks messier than yours

    Loren,

I am amazed that white sofas stay clean, I made the mistake of getting off white scotch guarded carpet, it was installed 6 weeks ago and it looks like 6 years!

I paid extra to have this scotchguarded although I suspect they forgot

    Thanks

Sorry I was not clear. That sofa was like tape. It would attract my hair, dust, lint, fabric, you name it.It was hard to keep clean, wiping down did not work, I would have to use tape or a lint roller to clean it. That picture was taken 3 day after delivery.
    This is my new sofa.

I found the velvet easier to deal with, but I think that's only because I such bad luck with the microfiber. I am single so I can not vouch for the durability and kids. I did pay for the scotchguard and have a warranty on it. So far so good. I currently have my Mom's Henedron velvet sofa and after 30 years it's holding up pretty well.

My friend with kids has a greenish microfiber sofa and has kids and has no problem.

I bet you just got a bad batch of fabric.

I just wanted to add that I've been very, very happy with our sofa. It does not attract lint or fur at all. It's incredibly sturdy and has held up well to tons of use (including by a very active toddler who stands on the arms and falls backward onto it repeatedly). It's been slept on, jumped on, moved 3 times, and is now in the most used room in the house (our library). The only thing that has changed is that the middle cushion has gotten a bit softer than the others, but that's something that you can't see by looking at it. We've had lots of things spill on it and everything has come off with water.

The whole reason we bought microfiber in the first place was because it could be easily cleaned. We don't regret it! Sounds like the quality of the microfiber makes all the difference -- we seem to have gotten lucky, since we knew nothing about furniture when we bought it!

I bought my micorfiber sofa set from this site Leather Sofa Set
& it turned out that I loved the sofa, however the color wasn't exactly what I expected. I had two options, to send the sofa back for a 20% restocking fee or I could make a new cover. Thankfully, the cover had a zipper & I took it right off & had a new one made. Now I have the exact color, & I posted the other one on craigslist.

When you spill things or most likely your toddler does, does it leave a stain until you clean it with water? What bothers me was that I thought having microbfiber and treating it with scotchguard would make it stain resistant. I thought it was supposed to bead or something and it does not seem to do that, it gets a darker stain and then I wipe it with water and it seems to go away but I really do not check back often

I cannot sew so that is not an option, its not the color so much as the fact that it is not the same as in the showroom amd there are other problems with it

I have a microfiber sofa and an honest salesperson warned my NOT to get stainguard on microfiber because it changes the microfiber so that it will actually LOOSE its natural stain repellant features! It alters the fabric chemically and there is no way to get the original features of the microfiber back. I have an inexpensive microfiber sofa I only bought because I needed something until I could redecorate with new floors, carpet, etc, and didn't want to spend a lot on a sofa that might not go with all the other stuff. I have eaten on it, dripped beef gravy, acidentally put a paper with fresh ball point ink upside down on it so the ink rubbed onto the sofa, and all have come out with a mild soap and water. It takes an honest sales person to tell you not to get the add ons that they make money from, but that is what you needed. That might be the reason for some of the color change, also. If you can get a replacement or refund, do so, and if it is a replacement, insist on no stain or other chemical treatments to the microfiber!
