Craftsman Garage door opener problems

My Dad recently passed away and the garage door opener stopped working. A friend replaced the worm drive but now the door will not stop at bottom. It goes down and then goes right back up. I can not find a manual. Does anyone know what this problem is? It is a 1/2 hp chain drive unit. Thanks for your help.
