Thanks for the reply, Steph. It sure didn't seem like they lowered the prices! I'm going to stop by and check on the country of origin. I did notice "maple, veneers, select hardwoods and other elements" in the catalog description, leading me to believe that it's not all solid wood, which surprised me, especially for a $2299 china cabinet.

I'm also still surprised that no one sells Ethan Allen at a discount.

It seems more pieces are being made with veneers these days. I got a price on a Bernhardt dining room table, $3,000 for the table and I just noticed it's made with veneers.

A few years ago some family members purchased a bunch of discounted Ethan Allen at some type of warehouse sale.....this was directly through Ethan Allen and their order consisted of discontinued goods and such. They are in California, perhaps Ethan Allen has an outlet there?

At least once a year for about 2 or three days in a row,there's a big sale at an Ethan Allen warehouse in Secaucus,NJ. Perhaps there's one close to you as well. It's advertised in the local newspapers before the sale.

I was recently at Ethan Allen and asked the sales associate about all this. They have "every day low pricing"(like the grocery store!) no sales(but the store has a sale once or twice a year when they get rid of floor samples-everything was taken when I went. I'd bet employees get first dibs). I was also told that a designer will come to the house to "design" the room as they don't want a mish mosh of items together that wouldn't reflect well on them. When I heard that I laughed. I didn't know I was too stupid to buy my own furniture.

We just received a whole room full of EA living room furniture. Everyone's right no sales. We did get a postcard in the mail about a month or so ago about a warehouse sale, again like was mentioned they were selling slightly damaged things, floor samples, etc.

Their design service is free and also delivery is free also. I am very happy with our furniture and the service we have received from EA.

I bought an Ethan Allen Butler's Tray Table from a thrift shop about 10 years ago. One of the leaves was unattached and I had to replace the hinges. It is in very good condition. This table mahogany and made in 1978 so it's top quality Ethan Allen. It retailed for $700 when new, and I paid $5.00 for the table and about $20. for the hinges! It's worth about $200 now. Judging from the posts the EA furniture of today is worth about half of the price they're asking for it.

Have you checked Craigslist for your area? Of course this is used furniture but if you keep an eye out you'll see some very recent purchases made by customers who can no longer keep because of changes in circumstance (moving, etc). A good place to get a great deal on Ethan Allen. I've seen a lot of the British Classics line sold on Craigslist lately. New stuff is posted every day.

There are no EA outlets where I live in Northern CA. All our stores have a set price, the sales are gone, everything is at the sale price. The only way to get a brand new piece is to wait for the collection to be discontinued, then the stores are eager to sell floor models at a reduced price to make room for the new line.

My EA British Classics dresser is the same price today, $1499, as I paid for it back in 2001, so that hasn't gone up. And yes, the warehouses do have clearance sales a few times a year, but you probably need to have purchased EA furniture to get on the mailing list.

I will echo what other people are saying about the furniture being priced too high for what it is. IMO that dresser should have cost about $1,200, if not less. On one of the larger drawers two of the boards are slightly splitting apart, and recently I noticed a knot mark that seems to be leaching sap or something.

There is still quality, solid wood furniture, being made in the U.S. I found a beautiful dresser at Crate & Barrel recently made by a Vermont company called Copeland. Solid cherry, absolutely perfect fit and finish, and just $2,000, which I think is a deal considering the excellent quality.

I just bought a little mahogany chest off the floor from EA. Occasionally they clear out some furniture to make way for new stuff, I guess. I paid $1199, it was originally $1399. Made in USA, as well.

I've been very happy with the quality and services provided by Ethan Allen. Their design service is wonderful and convenient. I have spent a little over $80k on Ethan Allen furnishings and every single room looks as if it could be in Architectural Digest. Those that think Ethan Allen furniture is over priced are mistaken; there are a number of fine furniture makers whose retail price is nearly 1 1/2 times that of Ethan Allen's. I agree that if you are only purchasing a few pieces then an interior designer is not necessary. However if you want to completely redesign a room (e.g. custom draperies, plantation shutters, wood blinds, Fabrica carpet, fine oriental rugs, signed artwork, and furniture) and give it a truly custom look, then I recommend using their design service.

I would only purchase furniture from Ethan Allen -- that's what they are know for, and that's what they do best. I have pieces that are almost 15 years old and look brand new. Their couches take a beating and remain beautiful. I have tried Macy's, Home Goods, This End Up and a few others. However, I finally learned Ethan Allen is the only place I go for furniture. However, I will not buy window treatments or rugs there -- too expensive.

Check out their clearance centers -- some stores have them. I found a beautiful curio cabinet reduced from 2099 to 1299 because the leg was broken. My husband fixed it in 5 minutes.

I have a British Classic Dresser (six drawers, w/3 on top including one for jewelry) as well as a British Classic Cayman bed. Could you suggest the best way to sell it for the most amount of money? If the market for EA furniture is too soft I will just take it with me on my move. Thank you for any insights you may have.
