If your WD warranty is not worded to preclude third party repairs of this sort, then any qualified tech should be able to do it. If no warranty, still no problem.

Well, I learned that the WD springs are exclusive to WD. I found a qualified repair service that removed all the WD spring mechanism and installed conventional torsion springs that can be serviced by anyone. Cost was nearly $500, but I'm quite satisfied.
