Shaw PerceptionIII carpet ?

I've always found a lot of good info on these forums so I'm trying again. Need your opinion/info on Shaw Perception III Philadelphia carpet.

We have a family room that gets lots of traffic with sliding doors to deck. I had looked around at lowes to get idea of what carpet types I liked but wanting to support a local busines had a local guy come out yesterday.

The lowes carpets had 15 and 25 year warranties and had density numbers on them which I could tell I like the higher density types. The Shaw Perception III has a 7 year warranty which seems low compared to Lowes. Also it has no details on back other than its 4.0 traffic rating, 100% Nylon, r2x soil resistance. But no weight or density.

So if you could tell me where I could find the specifics (could not find on shaws website) and or if you have ever used this carpeting, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

buying carpet based on 'density' etc is seldom a useful comparison. You may want to know the twist of the yarn. Also wear warrantys are fairly useless, however texture retention warrantys are quite useful. I think you need to do a little more research, but please don't buy based on factors unless you know how that translates into 'looks' and appearance retention.

Thank you for your reply. Do you recommend any factors to look for and how to find out? This particular carpet does not list the twist of the yarn on the label. I want to have good questions to ask the carpet man when I next talk to him.

Perception is a queen piece. Perception 3 is a 63.4 ounce product, I am unable to pull of spec information on Shaw's Dealer site. I had thought it was a dropped product. It is offered 12 and 15 wide. It is a spun or stapled, yarn system which will make it feel much more beefy than what it truly is.
Plus it could shed fiber. If he is a Shaw store, tell him you wish to see either an ever touch or preferably an Anso yarn system. A shaw 7 year warranty is an old label with the old star system. Now all Shaw warranty are strictly by Fiber. Anso has the best true warranty in the business with a 20 year non prorated, labor included, even on steps, even pet stains included. Evertouch will drop to 15 years with a prorated style. The carpet you are looking at has a 10 year.Getting hung up on the Lowes warranty is a mistake as it really means nothing. It is full of loop holes. Ask the guy for a nice Anso piece from Shaw and you are absolutley safe...but it will be continuous filament nylon and will not have the bulky feel...It will then be a carpet that will perform big time and the twist will be excellent with a nice finish on a good piece with top of the line r2x stain resistance. Not to drag this out but Shaw anso also comes in some introductory products that carry the same warranty but will not be nearly as heavy of a product. Tell him you want a descent anso piece. They have just come out with a few nice value products that are beautiful and reasonably priced, but I can not remember the style names. Not all stores sell the same products from a manufacturer.Hopefully he has a rep who is keeping him up to snuff with the Anso style Info. Continue to Deal with the fellow you know locally, but talk to him about a better yarn system. Good Luck.

I have a lot to learn. What does "a queen piece" mean? Thank you for the other information.
